Hello,

The feature film "Greydog" has a trailer posed at:

http://www.greydogmovie.com

It was shot with a DVX100, and a century .6 adapter.

I also have a DP production journal with screen grabs, production stills, and lighting diagrams that I would like to post, but I am not sure what subject I should post it in (Cinematography, lighting, Screen Grabs...) any suggestions?

:o ...three letters word... WoW!!!

This certainly looks VERY professional... Some of the scenes have the 35mm-to-DVD feeling to it... Good job! Let me know when you plan to release this on DVD, I want to buy a copy!

Lighting looks very nice except for the one bus shot with the kid running down the isle. Looks like a very good production. Can't wait to see the final piece.

Great imagery :) If you could post that production journal you mentioned, i'm sure it would be a valuable resource to users here

Hey, Looks nice, what kind of mics did you use?

Thanks for the compliments, and yes, that shot with the bus windows was blown out. It cuased me grief, but it's a trade off that often happens with a limited budget. As for what mics, I don't know, we hired a sound guy to do double sound to a DAT, so he was independent. He was also GREAT. He name is Sean Skinner. He was recently transplanted from NY to LA, and hungry for work, so we got him for deal. If anybody is interested, I would be more than happy to give you his contact info. He might even be willing to go outside "the zone" as well.

Looks like a great movie... i especially like the clip with the police.

I'm quite surprised at how much the DVX looks like 35mm

I mean, it's something between super 16 and 35mm. This film is a good example. I find it also works particularly well when there's a lot of black in the shot. The nighttime shots in this film look especially good...

My favorite shot is the shallow DOF shot of the guy with the guard tower in the background. Nice work- my guess is that you know it's a great shot- but you avoided the temptation to stay on it too long. You show it and then move on without lingering in the editing.

Yeah, the DVX is indeed somewhere between S16 and 35mm. But it has a look of its own. One thing I'm wondering... almost all of the well-shot DVX stuff (and the SDX900 also) has a kind of creamy-yellow cast to it in the highlights. Am I the only one that notices that? My XL1 used to make everything red- but the DVX seems to make the brights yellow.

I don't know, I would say rather somewhere between 16mm and S16mm.

Yes... there is a yellowish color banding in the blown-out (~110 IRE?) highlights. I noticed it too, but let it go because it fit with the feel of the scene. It is similar to what happens to highlights when tweeking out colors in telecine. I did a short where the colors were tweekend out in both the primaries and secondaries towards the blue green, and there too was blue green colorbanding in the highlights. That makes me wonder if it is an electronic effect related to whatever direction the white balance is. I shot the scene white balance through 1/4 CTB to give it a warm, heavy feel. Anybody else have any such experiences?

I had a discussion with my friend on whether it's between s16 to 35mm or not...

we came to the conclusion, it's more so between 16mm and 35mm, where it's practically the same as super16 but because it's video and has it's own look, that's it's not equivilent, just somewhere in that area...

I'd have to agree that it's about equivalent to 16mm, but only in it's native format. A blow up to 35mm, for example, wouldn't look as good, mainly due to resolution issues, but if you're watching S16 footage transferred to DV, and footage shot with the DVX, the quality would overall be about equal.
