Greenscreen short - Sniper

I was interested in trying some greenscreen stuff...and my boys had been bugging me to film them in their army helmets so we combined the two and made a little short with that dark, "band of brothers" sort of look. And added a bunch of Andrew Kramer's "Action Movie Essentials" explosions and smoke and some cool music.

Let me know what you think.

thats pretty damn good, but to make it even better just make the clouds in the background simulate the moving effect and it will look killer!

yeah i tried using a fog that had some movement in a layer in front of the background layer but I just couldn't get it right...looked really fakey. I need one of those cool pre-matted cloud effects probably.

The music is from freeplaymusic.com. they've got a pretty good assortment of orchestral music.

that was cool man. how long did it take you to film and how long was editing? oh, and where did you get the warner brothers animated logo?

Hey, thanks for the kind words. We hung up a lime-green tarp on the wall of my garage and shot it in a couple hours in the afternoon. Then decided to shoot an exterior shot on another afternoon. I was just intending to take a couple test shots so we just sort of made it up as we went. It wasn't until later that I decided to edit it into a semi-coherent story and added the voice over stuff. Editing took about two weeks working on and off because we really had fun tweaking the color correction and explosions in after effects.

Oh, the WB logo I got off a some online movie trailer...can't remember the movie but that black & white look really caught my eye.

I'm going to be keeping my eye on you. Both things I've seen of yours have been really well done.

Wow

This was so much fun. I would have preferred the hyperreal style of SPR when the kids were running but man, this was totally enjoyable.

Sigh

The future is now; greenscreen studios and storytelling !

Very cool!
I'll tell you what, this kicks the sh*t out of the home movies my parents shot of me when i was a kid.

This may make you the coolest dad ever.

Awesome.

Thanks guys!

Robert, Blaine, Thanks much, that means a lot! I've got a pretty good Audio Technica mic (AT4033 I think) that I use for recording stringed instruments, so I placed it on a stand and ran it into the xlr input on the HVX. But it didn't really work. Just too much noise (concrete floor, bare walls, square room, etc.). And I think I had the on-camera level set too low. So I ended up having them record a voice over into Soundtrack Pro, which is what I used to mix the final audio track. everything else is just stock foley stuff that comes with Final Cut Studio.

J.R. It WAS a lot of fun to do...especially editing the "look". I'm just now starting to learn what's possible in After Effects. The boys had a great time working on it. In fact tomorrow night they've scheduled a "world premier" and are showing it to their friends in the neighborhood. Lot's of fun. I'll try to attach a copy of their movie poster we worked on.
