I'm looking for a little info. on how a news room /weather man achieves the greenscreen live effect without any render/post time spent on the computer?

I know there's a mixer of some sort that's involved, and was wonderings if there's a piece of equipment that will work with the DVX?

Thanks

Ultra 2 has a live preview mode which I recently used at a trade show. Keying subjects live onto tracking shots complete with live shadow and relfection casting totally rocked.

Most any video mixer/switcher, and certainly any profesional one, will have built in chroma key (Green/bluescreen) effects.

There are also many peices of dedicated hardware used for keyeing.

One of the best is the "Ultimatte" system (www.ultimatte.com) - they even have a low end keyer for Composite/S-video/DV that's only $3k called the "UltimatteDV".

Shooter, that is software that only works in a computer. It's no good for a live signal output (such as for inclusion in a news broadcast like the weather)

It's the age old situation:

Good, Fast, Cheap ... Pick 2.

Cheap software can do a good job, but it will take it (and you) some time.

However as you want Live keying, that's "Fast" choosen. Now you can either do it cheap or you can do it good.

The UltimatteDV is about the best you can get for this level of keying, but it comes with a price.
At the other end of the scale is this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Videonics-MX-1-Digital-Video-Mixer_W0QQitemZ170056793157QQihZ007QQcategoryZ21166QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem - You'll get a person in front of another video signal, but the edges won't be very clean, there will be some green spill, and finer detail like hair will be next to impossible to key well.

There's a range in between that consists mostly of various low end Video Mixers (many of which you can find on e-bay) and some dedicated chroma-keyers. The key quality generally matches the price (thoguh keep in mind other features that you may also be paying for in a bigger mixer).

How good a key are you trying to pull, and for what purpose?

Great point, I totally understand what you mean. Thank you, I'll keep you guys posted on my decision.
