Green screen transition issue

So this is my first foray into green screen and I'm having a hard time getting my fade in/outs to look decent. The talking head stays on the screen longer than the background when the fades for both portions are equal. When I make the fade for the talking head come in ahead of the background, it doesn't look right either. Any suggestions?

You should make your keyed shot its own composition (keyed footage + background plate) then apply the fade to your composited clip.

Also, the motion of the 2 clips (when they move from frame left to frame right) seemed a little off.

Thanks HP- I have some timing issues down the line with the background clip. Every time I try to speed up the background so it matches the camera pan, there is a noticeable jump in the footage.

Nice job with the green screen! The lighting and background were VERY authentic. That's inspiring as I'm about to add that to my studio.

I would put the layer that you're transitioning to on top, then pull it back and fade into it if you wanted a quick fix. Pete has the right idea, though if you wanted a true crossfade.

A quick way to fade in out of CK layers is to add a one second black slug on the top track. Change its opacity from 0-100% or the reverse when you are fading to black.

If it's fade to black that you want, add a black matte above all other layers and keyframe the opacity. Layering fades like that often gives less than adequate results, but keyframing black on top covers everything.
