Green screen problem

Hi Kholi... yes, the P2 cards give you the most flexibility when it comes time to transcode, or rather the MXF files do. Using HDRack or the like sort of locks you into one form or another.

I blur the blue and green channels (exactly the same for both blue and green screen) about 1 to 1.5 pixels on the horizontal only. This is with 1080 source footage.

Hi Jim !

I always use chroma blur when pulling a green secreen key, even with 4:2:2..

But i didn't know about blurring only red and blue channels, and only horizontally.

Thanks for the info.

BTW, your key looks very natural.

Here is an interesting green screen job that I shot a few weeks ago:

http://www.theislandiscallingyou.com/

We did it with a 12x12 green screen lit by two 5k's, and a 1k rifa for a key and various rim lights, depending on the background that actors were to be in.

Nice job Wilson !

What format did you use ? resolution ?
The blackjack is great, did you used a green table for it ?

Thanks,
ulisses

Sick info, Jim. I am going to get some practice shots off during the week to see what I can do with a 10x10 greenscreen. It makes me happy to know that I won't have to be tethered to get great results. I still think the two ladies against the outdoors background looks real. Is there any other suggestions you'd have for working with the HVX in chroma land? When you mention transcode, are you sayin you convert the MXF footage to another codec before keying? Sorry I want to make sure I totally understand for my testing. You've been a major help.

The best advice I can give on the noise issue is to put the green screen IRE at 60-65, in the work I've done it's controlled the noise in subject/screen transition areas better than screens exposed at a lower level. Much better.

Here's a still where I practice what I preach... forgive the uneven level and weak chroma (client provided green paper backing).

And here's a short test key... notice that the hair is still finely represented, and as noise-free as this camera can produce...

Footage was 1080 30p resized to 720p with horizontal blurring on Red and Green channels before pulling matte, final comp was SD. Detail level was -3 which I find as the sweet spot for this sort of work, HD Normal gamma which seems to work as well as Black Press for me.

WOW! That footage is SICK SICK SICK man. Nice key!:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I used the HVX @ 60p. We did move a foreground green around for shot like the table, yes.
