Err... Is this really true?bigbossbmb said:I don't know if it is true, but supposedly the video feed from the S-video port on the camera streams the video without DV compression.
I'm not so much worried about capture quality.. I'll just capture with my hv20 in 1080i60 and down res it to 720p with apple prores 422 codec. I've heard good things about that process.
Its a pretty simple explanation. When DV is recorded to tape, its a compressed signal - the color compression shows up, and will have blocky edges. It is the nature of DV.
The signal passing through S-video when coming from the camera live, has not yet been compressed and escapes having the color compression artifacts.
New uncompessed capture cards Are expensive - and would typically NOT have S-video input - which would also mean purchasing an equally expensive converter (s-video to SDI) But pinnacle uncompressed cards go frequently for 2-300 on Ebay. (targa etc...) or you can pick up an old Matrox X100 and capture analogue direct to Mpeg2 with 4:22 compression - and you will have decent green screen that way as well.
