Great Story. Great American.

boring. who wants to know about someone who helped millions of people when we could be hearing more about what paris hilton learned in prison?

Hey thanks for posting. I'm glad to know such a man existed during my time.
A news cast wouldn't do him justice anyways, this man needs a pbs/discovery special.

Sounds like a great guy. I'd never heard of him in my life.

I'm glad I have now. Thanks PK.

This is why I watch news channels from other countries...thank goodness for satellite TV.. They actually report interesting things and not just about war, paris hilton, politics, and what's on sale tomorrow at Macy's.

Man, when I frist read the thread title, I was like... "oh my god, I cant believe how americans are always so proud of themselves". But I was really surprised to read this article.

I start loving the people on this board more and more everyday I am reading here! You are the shining opposite of my often quite bad image of america.

Thank you for that article :)

It is to the shame of any network who didn't run this story. News like this might actually make people care and engage again.

Don't believe everything you read about America. There are a lot of good people over here and a lot of things which benefit the entire planet come from this country... yes, there are also some bad things... but this is a pool of people... and just like in any country... some are good and some aren't. When regular Americans like myself see the onslaught of "America sucks" propaganda in other countries I don't tell myself "well [insert country name here] sucks!"... I tell myself "hmm... I guess they have a lot of flakes in that country also".

Anyway... this is the best I could find on this... but Penn and Teller have a show called Bullsh*t! That covered this guy really well.

Really... if you wanted to let this thread run free in naming Americans that are totally the opposite of what we are often portrayed as... then this thread would become one of the longest threads on the boards.

Kravinsky (click) has been one of my personal heroes for years now... and I'll bet you never heard of him.

I worked for 12 days on a Haiti "doctors without borders" type of project... and I saw a dozen other Americans down there... who really are risking their lives to bring aid to some of the world's most impoverished people. There is a non-stop CYCLE of American doctors and volunteers doing this in "shifts"... some stay for as long as THREE MONTHS! They are there right now... and there will be replacements when they leave... and there are carpenters and engineers and people who do all sorts of things. THIS IS HOW THEY SPEND THEIR MONEY instead of buying a summer home or boat or fancy cars! What's more... this isn't just happening in the little part of Haiti in which I worked... it's happening in MANY locations in Haiti... and in thousands of other places in the world... all the time... every day.

Things like this are happening ALL the time! Plus... start looking up who cured a lot of diseases that wreaked havoc on entire societies for hundreds of years... there are lots of selfless Americans and unfortunately you're not going to read about them in your local newspaper.

Ok, I think I sounded a bit too negative. Actually I think america is a great country and I really want to go there one day and maybe also live there for a while.

I dont believe in what I read about america, but the thing is, that america has a big image problem, which got really worse in the last years. I dont want to talk about politics here, but a key issue is your current president. He is really hated in the most European countries and the fact that he got elected for a second tenure didnt change the image about the americans to a good side.

Anyway, I do think that there are so many good people over there and this Board is the best prove for that.

Another thing to consider is, that I am german. Germans dont have the biggest national pride, due to some historical facts, so maybe I am a bit allergic to american national pride. When an american movie starts and in the first< seconds I see an american flag blowing in the wind in slow motion I could vomit immediately...

Anyway, thank you very much for your comment. I really appreciate it.

Btw. you have some totally awesome post on this board. Especially in the audio section.
