Great shoulder rig!

The Composite fiction is the one I've been looking at for a while now - just a PITA to get in the UK. $1450 from BHP in the US (so that's £939 UK) - but £1350 - that's $2,083 from the only UK supplier (plus VAT at 17.5% - soon to be 20% etc)... so I'm still contemplating the purchase!

But I really like the layout (you can adjust the camera to offset or inline) and it's more of an ENG style support system. I presume the Company has been around for a while (pre-dating the HDSLR craze) as the approach with mini-rails and riser mounting for the camera present a lot of choices (which is always good to have).

At the German hands-on tour we have been shown a new rig from Arri for DSLR and smaller cameras that will come out soon. The handles are attached to the compendium, so when you move them cam you are actually more or less completely parallel to the front optic. This felt great and may be an interesting set-up. On the other hand: Arri is expensive.

What's the final balance like. I find that many of the lower cost shoulder mounts place a lot of weight on your arms, which can be pretty tiring after an hour of shooting. This is one of the reasons why I like the Zacuto ENG rig so much is that you can pretty much have balanced camera with almost no weight on your arms. You can shoot all day if the balance is good.

balance is fine. you can add however many weights to the back as necessary (of course the bolt at the back would be longer to accomodate however many u need)...so you kinda have to figure out how much you'll need for your rig. after figuring it out just tell Steve and i'm sure he will give you the right length bolt or u can get it yourself. they are in 1lbs increments. only thing i would do... which i suggested to Steve... is get longer handles.

In response to MadMonkFish... it is a pity you got it in the UK, i got mine in Ottawa, Canada. I was in Europe while considering buying it, and as you know, the cost of living is ridiculous in the UK. When i called the company in montreal, canada, they told me they would not match the price of B&H simply because they don't want to disturb their suppliers in the states which is understandable. B&H has a higher volume so they can allow themselves to sell it lower. This is how the market works i guess...

Anyway i got mine in Ottawa at a very reasonable price... especially if you consider how much the competition, ( i mean SERIOUS) competition sells theirs...
