GREAT NEWS for 5D owners with FD glass

The Bower FD->EOS mount works quite well.....

IT has a corrective element in it, which accounts for the difference in Flange distance. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it performs quite well.... It"s a touch softer, and a touch more "dammaged" looking, weird flares, organic softness and the coolest dream effect with the 85mm F1.2 @ wide open.....

I am very happy with it, and its a very nice too lto have in the cinematographers bag. it opened up my 8 lens set of primes, from a 16mm Fisheye to a 200mm F2.8.

will post up some examples of good and "bad" from it....

Looking forward to seeing the samples.

I have a 50mm 1.2 FL, which is soft enough on the GH1. Am interested to see what effect it achieves on the 5D via corrective glass!

its INCREDIBLY soft.....

BUT, it looks awesome. definitly Special effects glass now.

Though at F2.8+ it performs as normal.

Have you noticed any chromatic aberrations? I've tried minolta lenses with glass adapters and they were very soft around the edges wide open. The CA was also very visible but it kinda gave everything a cool 3D effect.

actually there isnt much...

once you stop down past 2.8, the lenses perform about normal, till F16. after that they look crappy.... F22 is unuseable.

All the same lens..... just the top is a Canon FD 85mm F1.2L @ wideopen, the lower set is the same lens and setup @ F2.8+ worlds of difference.

Wow pretty amazing difference beyond F2.8

I think what's happening with wider apertures is that the light is bouncing off the outer edges of the corrective glass but at smaller apertures the light is channeled right through the middle of the corrective optics so the picture isn't affected.

Maybe the corrective FD adapter is only designed for F2.8 and smaller apertures? Can you get ones which cope with an F1.2 lens?

Timur, are the focus markings accurate on the fds? One of the things I like about fd's are that the full range of the focus marks are exposed and not in that little window like the new L glass.
