great new steady cam fir mini dv

better in what way? (well the idea is nothing new really...)

(good idea would be to be able to attach the wheel to some sort of simple steadicam at the bottom (to further increase the mass+Z axe stability when needed) - and to attach it to the west when needed also...)

I might be wrong, but I think the footage looks better in that it looks more stable than, for instance, the DV Pro Rig.

Smok3, what do you mean by "attach it to the west"?

If there are other better systems out there I'd love someone to tell me about them.

Thanks for the replies.

Figgis' framing isn't all that good..lol.

I dunno... I'm not a big fan of Manfrotto. I have a monopod and tripod of theirs, and they are both pretty bad. Solid, but bad.

I personally didn't even finish watching their movie clip ... here are the issues I take up with it:

The shots didn't really impress me that much over other steadycam devices I've seen.
As mentioned by ransom, looks like murder on the arms.
Both arms are having to hold this, so you can't adjust anything on the fly if needed.
If you DO want to adjust on the fly, must purchase additional accessories, for which with the DVX you're still limited to zoom only.
More limited on the height you can reach with this thing while on the fly.
And where the heck is the price tag on this thing? Can't even see how much it is to see how good or bad of a value it is.
For me, so far the best value/bang for the buck has been the SteadyTracker Extreme. Only cost $279, balances well, and I can even extend several feet above my head for on the fly crane shots.

Ideally, with lots of practice, anyone can take nearly any steadycam system & make it look like glass.

I also think that the Fig Rig is nothing special and hell on the arms! I built my own rig using the MarZpak, a modified shoulder harness, floating weights and handles for guiding the rig and cam. Total costs about $600. Now, I think if I were going to buy a rig today, it would be the "DV Rig Pro."

Did it really take the combined talent of Figgis and Manfrotto to come up with the Fig Rig...

Is is just a piece of circular steel tube!! HAHA!

I am currently working on a design that will revolutionise the use of sand bags in film lighting! :cheesy:
