Great deal on EBAY ready to ship!

How does the Mack warranty work in that situation? Does it kick in after the normal warranty would have expired (extension?), or is it a complete replacement and extension?

They're likely shipping from Japan, in which case your warranty from Panasonic is only from Japan. Meaning you have to send your unit there to have it fixed. Since this is too expensive for most people, they offer the Mack warranty instead, which would allow you to have your unit serviced in the US. I assume it would start from the time of purchase, not after the Japan warranty ran out, or it wouldn't do you much good.

The gray market deal has been discussed in another thread.

If your camera is shipped directly from Japan, you will have to pay import duties and customs which will be expensive. I think it's 3% of the declared value. Customs asks for your social security # which is a little scary. If the camera (gray market) ships from the USA then the camera would still have to be shipped to Japan for warranty. Some companies offer to take care of the shipping for you. And some offer the Mack warranty as an option. I think that's a no brainer. For around $200-$300 bucks you can buy a 4 year warranty that is covered worldwide. There are other extended warranty companies as well. I think eBay has a built in extended warranty program tied to square trade. I haven't heard about their service though so I'm not sure if it's a good deal.

Be careful who you buy from. An individual overseas might leave you hanging. Buying from a fly-by-night company might also be dangerous. The best bet, of course, is to buy from a local dealer. But if availability is an issue, or if you'll save enough bucks on the gray market, 'gray is the way'. Afterall, the internet has opened the door to shopping workdwide. As long as you do some research and you cover your butt with a warranty of some sort you should be alright.

Bottom line - the HVX200 rocks and getting it and using it is what we all want to do. I got mine and I'm tickled to death with the performance. Thumbs up to Panasonic. But what's the deal with the p2 cards? I have to get a firestore!!! when they start shipping. Any idea when that will be?
