GRAVITY -- directed by Alfonso Cuaron

I am totally intrigued by this film. I loved Children of Men and can't wait to see what he does here. The only thing that gives me pause is that I've read conflicting reports on the 3d of this film.

Personally I am no fan of 3d converted films. I mean whats the point, just to charge extra coin? Moreover, IMO converted 3d looks like crap and why not just shoot 3d to begin with.

Anyway, I've seen interviews where AC didn't want the film to be converted, the studio demanded it then recently I read an interview w/him praising 3d and going on about how great it was to shoot 3d.

To my knowledge this film was converted to 3d right?

This movie wasn't "filmed" in the traditional sense. It's almost entirely computer-generated, with only the actor's faces as actual photographed live elements. So if everything is created artificially, I don't see why they cannot do the most effective visually stunning 3D possible. When I think of the vast emptiness of space, the sense of isolation and depth, I can only think that this could very well be the first motion picture that truly benefits from 3D. I want to see it in IMAX 3D!

That said, I have mixed feelings about this new teaser. I was already interested in the film and now I'm afraid I've just seen a major story point given away. Fine to show me the setup from the beginning of the film, but don't give away what happens later. I guess I know it's not just going to be a tone piece of a person floating out in space waiting for her air to run out.

It definitely teases...just not for a film-going experience.

For a ride queue pre-show, on the other hand, consider me teased, fluffed, and ready to go.

Damn, they brought in Clooney AND Bullock for this new EPCOT ride. Soarin' only got Patrick Warburton...

For those that think we've seen the interesting part of the story already, here is some food for thought:

I get the feeling I've already seen the best part of the movie.

I know.....Are they shooting their wad in this series of trailers? Or is there more cool visuals/story that we have no idea about? Either way, I'm super-intrigued. The teasers are doing their job.

Gravity

Gravity

I saw this movie last night in a pre-screening.
It was a great movie.

Bit I have no idea how they shoot it! The first 30 minutes or so was also one continuous shoot.
Any behind the scenes footage?

Without giving away any spoilers, is there any sort of plot or story, other than just, hey there's an accident in space and the footage is really good? The trailers look spectacular, but I just haven't seen any real developed plot from any of the trailers.

I imagine the story is just the details of how they get out of the situation, like Apollo 13. Not every story needs to have plot machinations to be compelling. It's a survival story. Man gets into a hole and gets out of it again. To quote Kurt Vonnegut, "People LOVE that story!"

Exactly what Batutta said.
I was skeptic. 90min of space footage. Bit want all that bad.
I'd love to know how they shoot it!

With robots from what I heard. They put a camera on an industrial robot and did insane motion control.

Here is a video of someone using a robot to do some crazy forced perspective via projection mapping with the same type of bot.

Without spoiling anything: there are three or four twists that keep the story going. You'll enjoy it. The trailers do it perfect justice because unlike every other marketing campaign nowadays, they don't show you every damn shot of the movie and every plot twist before you even step into the auditorium.

Maybe. I tend to like a good plot. This calls it a "character drama" which isn't really my cup of tea:

Well, in that case, you might not like it, haha. It's definitely slower-paced, character-driven. I'd liken it to maybe something like Cast Away. It's got its twists, but if you're simply looking for a plot, you're not going to be too impressed. What I was trying to say earlier is that there's more plot than the trailers let on, but at the end of the day, it's all about the "gravity" of it, more than the twists and turns.

Wow. Masterclass stuff. SFX were astonshing. And the camera work just as amazing. I wish we had a REAL imax closer to us. It must be insane on that screen. And do not skip 3D.
