I thought of an idea, don't know if its been done before, but its an idea no less.
In high school my film teacher divided the class one day into three groups. Group 1 had to make a short movie that involved a dollar bill. At the end of the short movie the dollar bill would be carried over to group #2, extending the narrative. So the group 2 filmmakers would pick up where group 1 left off. Its kinda like when you whisper something to someone and they whisper it to someone else and so on and so forth.
So what I propose is this,
we should do a 'dollar bill' chain film. there should be rules worked out before any of us actually get started to keep uniformity
Rule #1: Each piece can be no longer than 60 seconds. It can be shorter but no longer than this.
Rule #2: We should all agree that everything should be shot in the same aspect ratio. I say we all shoot in 4:3 and I'll crop everything at the very end in post, or not.
Rule #3: All compressed video should be compressed at a high bit rate and at the orginal screen size, 720X480, 750 kilobytes per second ? Quicktime Movie files only. (the less compression the better because I would like to eventually download all of these pieces, import them into final cut pro and string them all together.
This is how I propose we do it because filmmakers will have to go in some kind of order. Anyone who is interested in doing this project say so and in 24 hours from now (it is currently 5:40 PM pacific time) I will read through the entire thread and randomly select the order of filmmakers out of a hat. That way we know we will have an end at some point. Each new film will be dependent on the order of the list. Once its the filmmakers turn they will watch all that came before them and construct something.
Right now I say we stick to the dollar bill being the item for which we transfer narratives to because dollar bills are easy to find, they all look the same and it is already an interesting idea to make something that follows where our currency actually goes to. This could be a lot fun!
So once again, reply if you're interested and in 24 hours I'll post the list and we'll get started. I don't have a problem with doing the first 60 second video just to jump start the process
take er easy ! :cheesy:
