Grainy and flickery footage?

Hi, I just got the AF100 and started testing it out as soon as I opened the box.

But the footage is really grainy and flickery? What's wrong? Please help! Thanks!

I really appreciate your help...

Be sure to black balance the camera if grain seems unusually bad. Black balance often!

If you shoot 24p and do medium sweep pans that's just the nature of 24p. Keep pans either very slow or very fast to eliminate flicker.

I find cine-d gama setting that is selected by default to be a bit too grainy for my taste, so I changed mine to cine-v like I had on my HPX. I left everything else pretty stock and have gotten pretty clean images. I am still working on tweaking mine though, but have been to busy with a couple projects to experiment any further. Like others have said, 24p footage will strobe or 'flicker' if you move or pan to fast with it, it is part of the way it renders motion, and shooting film or any other camera at 24p will produce the same results. Try using a slower shutter (like 270 or 360 degree) or higher frame rates (30p or 60p) if your shooting style lends more to that kind of work. Read about strobing in barry greens book for more information.

Also, like others have said, proper white and black balance is key. Ideally, you should do it when ever changing ISO or lighting.

You should not experience a single issue with the Default Sc1 setting ( straight from the box).

Show us what the "issue" is with a screen grab or some footage.

Do not go messing with a single scene setting until you have resolved this. You will end up confused and frustrated .
