Grain in the dark areas

Hi everybody,

I'm a new possessor of the DVX100B, and I'm really satisfied with it.

Yesterday I tried to make the first shoots of my first short (lighting rightly the set I think) and I noticed a really thick grain in the dark areas of the image... Something like a "Michael Mann's Collateral effect", even if in Michael Mann's movie I admit the effect is better :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I can see this effect in the clips loaded on the pc, but not in the LCD monitor... is this a normal response of PC images :badputer: or should I change the scene file settings?

p.s.
The gain is set to 0, so it isn't a gain problem

Try lowering your pedestal, it will make the blacks a little blacker.
But otherwise, hmm.....

I don't remember just right now at which level I set master pedestal, but I rember that I set it in order to have a really dark black... I'll try to lower it, thank you very much! :dankk2:
Maybe also the detail level set that causes this problem?

you can play around with the ped, and then goto detail and the core settings to get that black a little more constant.

Ultimately you're best off by testing the image on a calibrated production monitor. A TV calibrated as closely as possible with color bars is the next best solution. If you're output is solely web, then checking on a LCD would be passable, but if you get it looking good on a TV/monitor it should be fine on a LCD.

I've just tested my DV tape on my 16/9 tv, with zoom in (I shot in 4/3 letterboxed) and the response is: there is no grain in the dark areas (or less then the one I could saw in the LCD monitor)!

Thank you very much everybody!
