Hey all. I just finished a little 30 second introduction for my old high schools graduation video. I found some info online about how to do the flip board effect and I just ran with it. Tweaking, adjusting and adding my own flare. I'd love to hear any thoughts.

Yeah, it's no fun at all getting no responses.

I liked it, Matt. I think you can do even more with it if you have a little time to push it further.

Are you able to shoot footage for this, or are we limited to just using a plugin effect?

Do you have access to, say, class yearbook photos, anything HUMAN that you could add to the video?

Think of what the theme of your project (graduation) really means (growth, accomplishment, etc.), and then make sure that whatever you come up with is a visually engaging expression of that theme. I'm not certain the flip letters effect achieves this, but perhaps I am missing a connection.

This is something I am trying to accomplish with my own work, but it can be difficult to boil it all down.

Good luck with it! It's professional and clean. Now make it yours.

I agree with wjm. You throw some pictures or raw video in there, it would spice it up a bit. Also, try some camera movement to give it a bit of depth. What you have so far is a good starting point but you can take it much further.

Thanks for the comments guys. As far as the pictures go how could I incorporate them without making the intro longer? Also, I had tried doing a little more movement but my poor imac (although its awesome) has trouble playing those HD graphics even at quarter quality. I cant watch it well enough to judge the movement properly. And doing the ram preview takes just as long to render the preview as it does to render out the quicktime. haha

Make the pictures a background element to compliment your text. Maybe, create a book flip animation or looking through a yearbook animation using Photoshop and position. Also, try using the solo switch view individual elements on your timeline if you are running into ram issues.

any comments?

Just happened to check the AE section... so...

For me it was a bit... well... sort of ok... I don't know what the parameters are for this. If there are powers that be who want 'traditional', you've got it...

Like the other poster, if you have stock shots of the school over the last few years, then getting those composited, perhaps rapid fire to show passage of time, etc. may improve it.

In terms of graphics, they were pretty 'clean', and again, powers that be may like that look, but I'd tend to perhaps a bit more artsyfartsy look, perhaps ranging from clean font for more academic
look to chalk font for a more playful look.

a pic of the school would do wonders. maybe use another font (something more 2011-ish). use a glow or double the text track to make it fuller.

overall i like it as well......
