Gradual change of frame rate whilst shooting

Hi Everyone,

I know that it is not possible to do an automated slow down of frame rates, like the final shot in "[SIZE=-1]The 400 Blows", but is there any way that I can do this on the HVX200 apart from using the Varicam. All I am wanting is for it to be recording at a normal frame rate (25 f/p/s, European) and then for it to slow down gradually to 50 f/p/s. Audio is not needed to be recorded at the same time.

Also I have shot the whole film on 720/25pn.

Thank you for any replies.

If you dont need the audio you can record 25pn and overcrank it to 50 and then remap it in post so its playing twice the speed first and then make it go down to 25fps. I have not seen "the 400 blows", so i might be off.

I don't know if that can be done with an HVX but it can be done in post. for example after effects is great for time remaping.

Thanks for the replies!

So just to clarify, if I shoot it a t 50 f/p/s, I can then remap it to do a gradual slowing of the video and end it paused on a frame? whilst still keeping the playback rate at 25 f/p/s.

Also can this be done in FCS 2 at all or is After Effects the way that you would recommend?

Yes, I have done this several times. If you need audio, just record it on a separate recorder, then shoot everything at 50 fps OR shot at 720 P50 and just remap everything in post, then you would get audio.

This could be done is FCP or AE or with Twixtor, there are a lot of ways to do this.

Love The 400 Blows, one of my favorites.

Great, Sound has been recorded separately throughout the shoot. I will do it in FCP.

Thank you for all the help!

P.S. Agreed, 400 blows is one of the best
