GRACE GALE - rought cut - need input ASAP

okay so i recently posted a music video i did for a record company called Creep Records for a band called "the finale." Well the record company really really like the video and asked me to shot another one. The only catch was that the band was only in the area for the next week and then they were heading home to boulder CO. So that left me less then a week to get something together. So i shot this at the end of last week but in order to get the video on the Bands CD (which the label wants to do) i have to have it edited by wednesday night. Leaving the whole production only a week and a half long. (plus i work pretty much full time). So in either case here is a rough cut of the bands performance. There is a narrative that will be added in but i want to get the band footage done first. I normally dont like to post rought cuts so early on but i really need some feedback in order to make this the best i can by wednesday night. I know there are a few sync issues that i'm still working on. any input would be great. Here is the link.

by the way the bands not to serious and the narrative part kinda shows that so if they seem silly in the performance thats why.

Other than some bad synch (as you mentioned) this was a REALLY good job for a rush. I like the change in lighting at the end. The video was just about to get boring (same shots, angles, etc.) and then you changed the look by backlighting. Nice! I think they'll be real happy with it. The quality looks great. Good stuff and good luck finishing it.

How tight can the pants get? What do they do with their penis's?

Oh sorry.

Nice vid; especially for a rush as PK stated. Kind of a cool song; it could grow

not bad at all for such a short perieod of time. I hope you don't mind but can you tell us what you charged the record company for this shoot? I just want to get an idea of what the going rate is. Feel free to PM me if you don't want to make it public. thanks and good luck with the video.

PK: what's up! You know, i saw Batman recently and man you look like Christian Bale! :)

John: As always you're cracking me up again!

i've seen tighter pants worn by the likes of Van Halen, the Who, Led Zep, many others. trust me, their "boys" are gonna be just fine.

The redundant dolly shots gotta go. I couldn't understand what they were singing about. The set/lighting was.... well..less than. Besides snyc, I liked the editing.
But what I liked most was the creation and completion of this project in such a small time frame. Too bad the overall quality suffers because of it. Not trying to be uncool, just trying to be honest and hopefully inspire you to raise your standards. Love always

thanks everyone. I'm about to uploaded a slighitng different cut with a little tigher edits and a little better sync (the one singer sucked pretty bad at sync)

PK - thanks for the comments

strancali - i sent you a PM

John - Yes they are some tight pants. But it happens to the best of us.

kprince - yes the lighting and set.. well wasnt exactly up to par but when you met with the band for the first time 24 hours before you need to shoot it makes pre production pretty hard. And yes i consider this under my standards but given the time frame i'm happy with the outcome. Thanks for your honest opinion though, it helps.

any other input? ayneone?

Watson, I checked out you www and really dug the Converse® spot. Seemed like it needed one last LOGO plug in the end. Just my opinion. Good work. Love always

I was one of the first people to rave about your last music video, and this one is more of the same high quality work. You really integrate dolly shots well into the mix, and they're very smooth. Looking forward to see the narrative incorporated with this performance footage.

By the way, your last video made me buy The Finale's newest CD, which I enjoy a lot. Great feel-good summer driving music. You can tell your employer at the record label that you're already moving units for him.

kprince - hey thanks man, yea that was for there 24 sec film contest, in wich i guess if they picked mine, they would have put in the end animation, but i should get around to putting my own in so it seems more complete. Im in the middle of finishing my website, i hope to have it done in a few weeks.

Kevin McCallister - hey man thanks a ton. Thats awesome you got the CD, Its good isnt it? i enjoy it a lot. ALtough i cant really listen to "my living will" anymore casue i heard it wayyyy to many times. haha.

I'm sorry I am a fan of that type of music, but this band was just obnoxiously annoying. As for the video... It had it's moments, but I felt it started out nowhere and went nowhere some may like this in videos, but it take two seconds to ask "whats this song about?" Sketch some ugly storyboard and shoot interlacing shots of the band performing with bits of the story. Because you only have what you have mix it up and make it change a bit, work with some color correction, if you got close ups of the instruments use them and save the wide angle of the whole band for only about a third to half. I hope this helps a bit...
