Re: Grabs from San Clemente

Interesting clips.

The lens flair in the first one is a little too much for my taste and the rest of the clips seem muted and hazy. Perhaps it was just a hazy day.

I would love to see what you can do with these and a little color correction to try and bring out some more contrasts.

Thanks for sharing,

Chris

Re: Grabs from San Clemente

I think you're underexposing your images. They were hitting 60% on the waveforms. Don't be afraid of opening up a stop or two. You'd get better use of your latitude. But I do love those pastel colored sunsets. John had a couple of his own to share...

Re: Grabs from San Clemente

With this in the backyard us Westcoasters are forced to shoot it. :D San Clemente is indeed a wonderful placeand hasnt been fouled up like San Diego yet.

I'm not personally minding the exposure on these particulary in the cloud detail.

Re: Grabs from San Clemente

It's not as cool as it used to be;

too many people
unaffordable real estate
smog in the L.A./Orange County/Riverside/San Bernardino area
always 80d is kind of boring
gas is 2.40 a gallon
waves are too crowded (except in winter)
no communities as everything is too spread out yet blends into one after another
housing is one track home after another
no yards
chicks are stuck up

sigh...

they call it the sunshine tax

Re: Grabs from San Clemente

I hear that John :-[ But at least smog = interesting sunsets. When I shot the stuff - I was actually helping a client learn how to edit his home movies and I took the dvx up to his roof for five min - I did not use the zibras and was really just grabing what I could. It will be a fun color correction experiment tho.

Re: Grabs from San Clemente

Ok, I see what you mean about the under exposure - here are some quick and dirty corrected verisons.

Re: Grabs from San Clemente

WESTSIIIIIIDE! Okay, sorry, I had to. I'll never do it again, I swear. ;)

I'm in the Bay Area, so it's not quite that beautiful in my backyard, but scenes like that are only a scenic 20 minute drive away.

Re: Grabs from San Clemente

i think the exposure was fine on the first clips, of course the blacks werent black, but on a tv monitor, they prob looked fine, man I miss so-cal some days! :'(

The West Coast is great; speaking of the Bay Area; the home prioces there are worse than here (San Diego) but we are catching up apparently.

For a half million you can buy ****.

Re: Grabs from San Clemente

hell...over here in south orange county, you can get a nice 1000sqft 2 bedroom condo for only $400,000...sheesh...by the way tc, how bout dem A's and Giants... ;D

Re: Grabs from San Clemente

Nice, I was born in San Clemente and grew up between there and SJC. Is that just south of the peir or closer to Cotton's Point?
I am now in Columbus, Oh, where I live in a brand new 2 year old 2500 sq foot house (2 bedrooms, 3 baths, finished basement) in a great neighbrohood that costed $180,000. I have friends who have similar places in OC that cost triple, (Ladera Ranch!)

Re: Grabs from San Clemente

It is in the southern most tip of San Clemente, south of the state beach, next to camp pendleton - private neighborhood like most of new south county (orange county) :-/

Re: Grabs from San Clemente

it looks normal for cinelike D gamma setting...noisy and faded...

For a punchier and cleaner look with the same dynamic range, just use the "high" gamma setting, dial down the chroma 3 clicks, set the v detail to "thin", and detail to 0, and the image will become more alive.
