Nice work, great composition. It looks like you used a 2.35:1 aspect ratio. I think that it add to the film look. How did you frame your shots for 2.35:1?

We had a PDA screen protector on the LCD screen that had the correct aspect ratio drawn on it.

The last grab has a nice comp to it and the black and white looks nice; the rest are kind of blase and the 5th grab is screaming "In search of composition!"

I like the last grab best. I find it to be the most engaging and I like that it feels unintentional. The rest of the grabs feel intentional, intentionally artful, and a little self indulgent.

Actually it was composed with a great deal of care.

Forgive me Coltrain; I was just making an observation albeit subjective. I hope it was not taken the wrong way. May I ask a couple 'subjective driven' questions?

1. The shot with the young man looking at the tower? His head is castrated. Any reason for this?

2. The shot with the crane? His entire body has been severed from the mid-spine down. Any reason for this?

I undersatnd you put some careful thought into these comps and one grab is merely that; it could be at the beginning or end or middle of a shot; I'm trying to understand your motivation for these 2 shots in particular and am not trying to come across as a pain in the ass.

Usually when someone releases some 'production stills' they aim to grab the best of the bunch; these 2 particular comps have me wondering what you had in mind.

Damn, I am coming across as an ass aren't I? Hey, it's a forum. Consider it chat.

 :lipsrseal :undecided

A couple comments here...

Personally, I love the composition of those shots. I don't see any problem with them.

On the flip side, I agree that some of shots have sort of an artsy feel whether that's bad or good you be the judge.

Lastly I would ask what is thsi film about?

thx

Forgiven.

What would you have done?

Don't worry I can take it.

The film is a Christian metaphor and revolves around the end of a man's life.

Hi Coltrain

Thanks for being receptive to my inquiry.

I would have done exactly what my two questions illustrated; not cutting off the head I would have left a little breathing room in the frame; not much but just some negative space for his head.

I assume you want the crane towering above the young man? I would have brought that camera down to ground level to put as much of the actor in the frame as possible; I would zoom in tighter on the framing to have the talent fill the frame as much as possibleI find it somewhat distracting to see him severed in the upper spine.

These are merely in my humblest of opinions; I believe we all share our work to help each other grow as artists. Anyway, in the ned, in your film and vision; stick with your gut.

There was a point when I would have said exactly what you have just said and that would have been the shot that we got. However, I feel that I have progressed beyond that point and now I feel like the shots that we did get, are actually more effective. But that's simply an opinion.

Thanks for the comments.

I actually have to say John is correct.....IMHO you went for an aspect ratio look. Well those particular shots look like you didnt do a good job framing for this "look".
Why.... because you have such good framing and comp on the other shots- especially the lastone. So the grabs John has pointed out do not really flow with the others.

To me the crane shot looks like in post you had to decide which was more important the crane or him. I understand it was done on purpose but im my opinion it looks more like a mistake ......but without seeing the piece I really have little to base my 2 cents on.

OK

Nice grabs!

I love the shot of the guy walking along the tracks. The sky looks great, nice composition.

I would also echo Hudson's thoughts on the others, but overall great work.

Chris

I would say the crane shot works on its own or perhaps if there were other shots like it, but when seen with the other shots,it probably doesn't fit. Its almost like it belongs in a different movie.

But unbelievable grabs though! Truly.
