Grabs from new short

Just filmed the first scene in a short I've been planning for a little bit. Wow, we did this in my garage (in houston), and it was freaking hot. I mean when we walked outside into the 100 degree weather it felt like it was 50 degrees. So anyways, we sweat a lot but I think I got some decent looking stuff. This is also a first time for me with some halogen lights from home depot that I bought today!

All I changed was just the brightness and contrast...

Basically what I was going for is kind a mysterious caller inviting someone to come play airsoft, but he has to look hardcore. Please leave some comments!

If you want I can add a video of the scene...

EDIT//
Here's a rough cut of the intro...

I didn't even really do that much with it, just basic brightness and contrast... here's the raw.

I was gonna comment on the fact that his face couldn't be seen, until i saw your comment. So great job, and the third grab looks great!

Nice...third pic is very nice...actually 2nd pic is too, and great to see sombody shooting in 4:3...its a great thing *loves to shoot in 4:3 too*

Thanks very much everyone! Michael-J-Dowswell, I'm probably going to end up cropping to 16x9 :)

Wellll…at least its not going to be cropped to 2.35:1...LOL...but I mean seriously now here, the aspect ratio doesn’t matter at all...it’s the story that is the most important thing...

It's subjective anyway...aspect ratios...

For what its worth, I’ve made four animations in 2.35:1 one animation in 4:3 and four documentaries in 4:3...it really honestly doesn’t matter which you end up with, but personally I will be going 4:3 from now on. I prefer 16x9 over 2.35:1 though...but I will watch anything with a good story in any ratio, shot on anything...shot on mobile phone if you want...LOL.

I took a exception though to 2.35:1 because I noticed that it was very hard to get a good sense of scale and a good sense of height and space for interior and exterior location / sets. If you watch Stanley Kubricks The Shining you will see that he gets a tremendous sense of scale...this of course though is all subjective...quite a few people complain and say that with 4:3 things are very distant, that faces become small... but I DO love the way he used the lenses to get as much in the frame as he could on those wide shots. Its nice to look at the location and also get a feel for the location.

Hope this doesn’t come across as a rant...but sort of poured out of me there...LOL. Not meant to be a rant at all btw...

Well I like 16x9 because most of the videos you see on youtube and any type of home video is usually 4x3, so by using 16x9 it just seems more film like to me.

Well thats cool dude...please please shoot in what you want to shoot in...and I will watch it in any ratio...a lot of my favourite films are in 16:9...a lot of my favourite films are in 2.35:1...and a lot of my favourite films are in 4:3...

Sure I have a video hosted here. I'm not finished with the audio, I still have to do voice over for the other end of the line... but you get the point. It's just a rough cut.

Hmmm... I DO like the dark lighting, and how clean your shot is, but I'm not so sure about the messy garage as a background. It's really not very eye pleasing:undecided

Just watched to clip. Looks great, and audio sounds great. What are you using (audio)?

Well for that I used an sm 57 plugged into the dvx. I just got my rode ntg2 shottie in today!

Yeah, I had 3 halogen work lights. I bought 2 500 watts and 2 250 watts, and then I found and hung it from the ceiling of my garage (but you can get those from home depot too).

I agree about the background... if you gotta have the messy garage maybe move the table further away from the shelf and shorten your depth of field.

Your lighting is cool though. I love the swinging lamp.
