Grabs from my music video...

Hey guys, I've been working on this video for a long time now, I showed you all storyboards for it, but we finally got down the the nitty gritty yesterday.

We shot from noon to 4 AM (with one one-hour break) and at 3 PM (when we took our break) my entire crew left...about 7 guys. So I was alone and had to light the performance parts (we did narrative first, to get the actors out) myself, shoot myself, etc...

But yeah, I think it turned out very well...these are straight from DV tape, compressed to jpg's. No CC done yet, although I'm not sure how much I'm going to do.

It's also not letterboxed yet.

I'll have some clips up soon.

OH YAH! And this was all done IN STUDIO, at my school.

(EDIT)
Here is a little (and I mean LITTLE) clip from it...with like 5 cuts or something, some of the cuts are off, but I'm still working on it.

It's like 700 Kb's...10 seconds long.

Also, if you want to see some (like 100) behind the scenes shots (more of the band than the filming side) go here: http://www.murphman-studios.com/images/studio

Nice. The lighting on the second shot is awesome. I love that high contrast look. Very good use of blown highlights and lighting in general (though I think the first shot is even a bit too overexposed, but it's still really nice.)

loved the first shot. what may have made it even nicer would have been a tad bit of smoke in the room to give more texture to the light coming in through the window.

really good stuff.

Actually we did smoke it, but that was the last take and it looks the best. The smoke looked too unrealistic most of the time, and the one time it looked good it screwed up (machine coughed up some extra smoke into the shot near the end)...didn't realize it until we watched the footage.

But yeah, we had the smoke covered :).

theres been a lot of music vids posted but this one (my opinion) is one of the better. Since its in a studio is all of the light artificial??!! Really feeling the scheme. Got me wanting more. Love the lighting in the second shot. Did you DP? love to see more of the DPs work. GREAT WORK

i just watched it again. Be carefull maatching light patterns between shots. When he rolls over in one shot the light is at his waste, and in the shot where he rolls in it is at his shoulders. Just noticed it so i thought i would let you know. But the edit works so good i probably wouldnt re cut it

Hey Steve,
Thanks alot, man!
I DP'd, directed, am editing, producing, gripped, everything. I lost my entire crew shortly into production...

It's funny that you noticed the light changing, we moved the bed about 2 feet from the wall (this is when I still had crew) in order to shoot through that doorway to get that DoF shot. So yeah, the lighting changed...but I doubt I'll fix it...it's so quick, and the lighting looks so nice on that roll shot :).

And yeah, it is all artificial, we used a 5K for the daylight and a big HMI for the night light...I'll be CCing the night light a bit more, as right now it looks kinda funky.

But thanks again!

Also, we are still shooting, we're going to try for two weeks from now to get the subway scenes, which should be pretty cool. That's where the whole story ties together.
