Re: grabs from location scouting

I think the location itself is unremarkable. However, keep in mind that unremarkable locations abound in many films - it is what you stage there that matters.

A good scout will also note and gather information on area parking and facilities - this only becomes more important when shooting student or no-budget shows. Public bathrooms or a friendly cafe can be the difference between a comfortable shoot and one where people are constantly disappearing to use facilities! Most restaurants and coffee houses are more than willing to allow use of their facility if there are customers built into the equation.

That said:

Shooting at this time of day with your talent toward the camera (backs toward the park), you should consider some reflectors or daylight balanced fixtures. Backlit greenery looks better than anything you could do with lights, so try and shoot at this time if possible. Keep in mind that you should shoot your coverage first and try and limit retakes here. Hard shadows from those trees will blow your continuity in wide shots, but aren't as likely show up in your close-up or medium work.

Having all that level cement right at the feet of your talent gives you lots of room for a dolly. This is handy for subtle dolly shots in or out to break up static shots - and five foot sections of track require little shimming!

Have fun.
