Grabs from a horror short

If I didn't know better I'd think that was a NOK NOK joke.

What country are you in? I'm curious what NOK is? I know it's like VAT, but I'm wondering what it stands for.

I also applaud your efforts... and at the same time wonder how in the hell you talked your parents into the DVX for car trade?

NOK= Norske Kroner (Norwegian Coins), that's because I live in Norway, and just like you in the states have dollars, we have "Kroner".

And also, we didnt really trade the car for the dvx, we just figured that when we sold our car, we had so much money that we could easily afford a dvx  I could actually get a DVC200 for the money too, but that would throw us out on the street :cheesy: But really, the DVX had nothing to do with selling the car, we just figured that "hey, we can afford like 5 dvx100s now!"

Footage will come, when I'm satisfied with the results. :)

I like the last one. When I saw it I yelped like a girl because I pictured a hand popping up.

Or it's just some guy climbing..

Well, I have som footage here, but I'm not really happy with it, as we didn't have enough time to come up with a real script. I just wouldn't like to dissappoint you everyone, BUT if you guys just don't take it too seriously and just look at the cinematography, then it could be possible to post something. :)

Just have to compress it really good now...

edit: I'm in the process of making a real script now too!

that was better than most of the crap that people put on this site. awsome job keep it up! and thanks for the footage i needed something to hold me over until the zombie films.
peace out late

Great stuff! Very atmospheric. Keep up the good work!

On the down side, I would say that there is zero story going on there, but if you are more interested in the visual side of things, that's fine. Maybe find someone who wants to direct and tell stories, and you can work with them doing what you are best at.

That's a great location too.

One other thing, try not to leave your tripod in shot next time! :cheesy:

Thanks mmm! :)

About the "story", we just made it up durning the shot as we didn't plan anything. It was mostly just a test with the avaiable lightning and stuff. Now I just showed it to my classmates, and suddenly got like 10-20 assistants on the final movie down there! :cheesy:

Yeah, I'd agree... No real story here... Some interesting shots... I am not really digging the handheld feel too much... And if you're going to shoot handheld... try to make your movements with the camera more natural... or use a tripod... It's worth investing a few hundred dollars in a good tripod when you have invested 3 g's in a dvx... Just my 2 cents... Keep filming!!

Well, I have a tripod, but it really sucks, as you can see, jerky pans all over the place. What I'm saving up for now is a rain cover and a shotgun mic, as I only have the onboard lousy mic right now :undecided

Yeah, watch your ****ing language kid!!! Where do you think you are, the Sizzler?

Awesome grabs man. For any age, those just rocked.

You should get an exact date as to when your location is going to be knocked down, so you have a time frame to work with.

Alot of people here would KILL for a location like that.

Take advantage of it...and keep shooting, keep posting.

Spotted the tripod in the frame near the end. Great job. Especially for your age. Ease up on the F-Bombs, at least until you're 15. :)

Damn 14...
The first thing I shot at 14 was Waynes World with my Hi-8mm camera.. a spoof obviously of Wayn'es World... which by the way sucked ...

your shots are better than 95% of what I've seen from people doing this for years...
so keep it up... and you will surely succeed as a DP if not a director.

goodluck.

hey good job there kid... so in 10 years you'll be 24 and probably directing some major films... not that bad. As for the grabs.. i really liked the twisted hallway shot. silhouette's are the best. The only down side to those shots is you really notice the amount of grain the dvx puts out... That's where the HVX comes in. I guess it would have been worse without the "E" model. Not too familiar with that model though... Im guessing it has better low light capabilities?

surprisingly well shot, entering the frame, screen direction, rule of thirds, lighting. Most of the basic tenants of good camerawork were followed here....

...but the whole experienced ruined (IMO) because of your lead's annoying gum chewing. He didn't seem too scared to me, and if he isn't frightened enough to spit out the ol bazooka joe, than I certainly cant get frightened.

I just learned that the place is being knocked down next week or something. Now that gave us one heck of a rush today, spent 4 and a half hours shooting today. We actually got to rent an XLR shotgun mic from the church, for free! But because of our lack of experience with external mics, the sound wasn't perfect all the time. We completed about 60% of the shooting today.

Can you feel the horror? :cheesy:

MiniMan-
I haven't read all of your reviews yet but it seems like you have some fans!
I really like the atmosphere portrayed in these grabs, the only thing I really didn't care for was the forth grab and the lighting in the second grab (I love the angle!). The first grab and the last grab (and possibly the third) are definitely the best out of the bunch - great lighting, frame, and angle - very mysterious.
As a matter of fact, these grabs almost remind me of a colder version of 28 Days Later (although many people will disagree - it is one of my favorite movies as far as directing goes).
I know a lot of people like these warm-colored grabs (Grabs 2 and 4) but I'd say to stick with that cold and dark feel (more of a blue-ish/green-ish darker color) to match the overall mysteriousness. To me, they don't quite completely capture that rugged atmosphere like the other grabs do and basically look like a completely different film (purely in my own opinion - I am often told that I am wrong).

Anyway, enough jabbering about! I'd love to see this in action - Any possible way I could get a copy of it? Seems like something I'd dig.

Keep up the great work!

Cheers,
Eric
