GPS/Accessory port doesn't seem to work!

I ran into a problem yesterday on a shoot and wondering if anybody can offer up any suggestions. I have a wireless remote control that I use that uses a radio frequency made by YONGNUO Digital. I use it in conjunction with my SB-600 flash and allows me to mount the camera high out of the reach of my hand and still be able to snap a picture and use the flash.

Well yesterday I set it up as I always do (it plugs into the camera's GPS/Accessory port on the side of the camera, and I get nothing. I just used it a few weeks ago at a bike race and it was working fine.

When I press the shutter button on the remote, the receiver that is plugged into the camera lights up to tell me its ready to flash so that tells me that its working but for some reason the signal from the receiver that is plugged into the GPS port is not reaching the camera .

I don't know if the receiver is bad (or needs another battery) or if there is a problem with the GPS/Accessory port. Is there a way I could test that port? I don't have anything else I could plug in there unless I take my camera to a camera shop and have them look at it.

I checked all the menus to see if I accidently turned something off but everything looks correct and how I had it.

I did forget to turn the remote off one day and thought it might be the battery but like I said when I press the button on the remote the light on the receiver lights up so I know the batteries have to be somewhat good.

Another thing I noticed. A friend of mine has the same remote control and we had ours set to the same channel. Well my remote which was plugged into my camera was making his flash fire but not mine. I then changed my channels on the remote and receiver to be different from his and mine still won't fire.

probably your receiver, i would change the battery first. and maybe look into something a little more reliable.
