Got My Hvx200 Today!

Well I did it! I purchased the HVX200 and two 4 gig cards from my very good long time local dealer; A-VIDD in Long Beach. Thanks to Dave Johnson for great service as usual and also Tom Badoud.

That aside the HVX is here and I look forward to being behind that lens soon. Thanks to everyone here that has been helpful and I am sure I will have plenty of questions to go around.

PS: I can't use the HVX at the moment since I am in the middle of a project, however I do need a little advice. I edit with FCP 4.5, so that isn't going to work until it's upgraded. So what options do I have to get clips over the next few days from the P2 to share. I have a XPpro box too! If that helps!

Oh BTW, what's that clicking sound when I rock the HVX200. LoL................ :-) Ha, ha ha long running joke, I know it's the OIS.......

You can firewire capture from the camera using FCP 4.5... just hit "play" on the camera, and capture using "log & capture" in FCP.

If you have XP Pro though, run (don't walk) to Canopus and download the 30-day trial of Canopus EDIUS Broadcast. It's fast becoming my favorite PC HVX editing app.

Pappas congrats... Can't wait to see what you come up with... I was in that boat with FCP until I got the update. You could also downconvert to DV and work with it that way for a little while. I did that for a couple of weeks until I got the update... which is worth the cash since it comes as the suite...

Will you also be doing additional tests and posting the results?

Got mine today too! 720/60p is amazing. Did a quick test flying around one of my ninja swords. It was flippin' sweet!

Ok, I took a break for an hour to use the HVX.

Panasonic gave me my DVX100 back, this time in HD. My DVX100 was my favorite personal project camera, now I have the HD version.

My first thoughts were......WHoaaaaaa! Mother$#%^$%^% .. Sweeeeeet, oh how sweeeeettt it is!

Simple, the noise issue is so friggin over blown that it's even more apparent now. It's sharp too! The colors are so nice. Oh come on the VF is not bad at all. Yeah it's not HD, however it looks fine. Focusing is a breeze and the focus assist's kick asssss!

The Lens, how can I say it, awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome.

I mean this camera is a 5K HD tool that is packed to the gills in features.

P2 as I have always said is great; yeah 8 gigs gives me 8-minutes, however it's 8 minutes of awesome HD. It will get better too. By the end of the year, we will have lots of record options and P2 will be half the price.

Jan & Panasonic, you brought a great piece of gear to the market! Thank You very much...

Jan, could I suggest one feature if you do firmware upgrades and if it's possible. Can you make the color saturation go all the way off to black and white. Please, if possible......

I will keep you all updated, and thanks everyone for the congrats.

This camera is a keeper...

what's happening Michael ? hee hee... you'll love it.

Like any camcorder, no matter the price range, you'll have to learn to work "WITH" his strong points. No camcorder is perfect.

...but the HVX can produce some extremely good looking images.

I have mine since 3 months and all i can say is that i really enjoy working with this powerfull tool packed with a ton of features. The colors are, and by far, the very best i've seen so far. Very very solid color reproduction. The images are simply "beautifull".

It is an addictive camcorder, no joke.

Congrats

Thanks Barry! I'll give Canopus a try as well!

Looking forward to some footage. And yes, the b&w suggestion is a good one; at the HD Bootcamp we show some b&w footage Evin did and it's just riveting; it'd be very nice to get that in-camera too; I'll suggest that on my official nag list!

The H1 is a good camera. The HVX is a good camera. I have no plans in doing any side by sides. Nothing to prove. I actually could care less to be honest. I have owned a H1, HD100 and now the HVX. The HVX is the keeper. That should say enough..... :-)

I hate to say this corny phrase, however it has as John Hudson has said ; " it's got the MOJO"... I liked my DVX100 the best with regards to small form dv cameras.

The HVX200 is now that and much much much more.

Can we assume a comparison of the H1 and HVX is in the offing?

huh, this is interesting. My HVX came in a standard "cardboard" colored box. Yours seems to be white.

Any clues as to the different box colors?

[EDIT: the more I'm looking at that photo, the more I'm thinking it IS cardboard colored, and that my eyes are messing with my mind. ah!]

(btw, funny about the post asking whether it was the PAL version due to the "P" at the end. I thought the exact same thing when I saw it. I nearly flipped out but calmed myself until I could check the manual, where I was reassured its just the model name for the NTSC version. :))

Have owned? If I understand you correctly, the HVX is the only cam you currently have?

Sounds like the end of an Odyessy, and you've come home.

Yes, the HVX is the one! Yeah , it does feel like that in a way; the end of an Odyessy. The DVX100 was my favorite personal project dv camera.

The HVX200 is it's evolution to a new realm.......

What's also nice about the HVX200 is the lack of aliasing on fine detail and curves that the Canon H1 does, and I didn't like that issue. The HVX is truly progressive and it shows.

Thanks for adding that suggestion Barry! This would be so cool to have. Hopefully it's not to hard to let the color saturation go down to off with a firmware feature offering...
