Following dvxusers,

Got my HVX yesterday, but could not find the tape I wanted(Panasonic Advanced Master miniDV). Since I'm not ready to shoot HD, I had to settle for Panasonic's AY-DVM80XJ. The package said professional grade ideal for 3CCD cameras. Is this Okay?

I really want to stay consist with Panasonic's best grade miniDV tape until I get
a hard disk recorder. Any suggestions?
 
Tape? Is that a foreign language? Congrats on your purchase. Make a firestore/p2 card or whatever your next purchase. :)

Panasonic actually recommends against using the 80 min. tape with the HVX. (I know that I'm going to get slammed with messages about how others have used and it's been working great!) There is a reason. The tape has to be made much thinner and the reels inside the cassette are smaller. The cameras sometimes don't have the ability to detect that it is an 80 min. cassette and can have tape handling problems. As I have mentioned before, the tape is thinner and will not be as robust during operation.

Our Service Center has always used the Panasonic 63 min. Master Quality tape and now the 63 min. Advanced Master Quality tape.

You shouldn't have a problem with the 80 min. tape that you have already bought, however, you should probably switch to the 63 min. AMQ tape later.

My HVX was SUPPOSED to be here on Thursday, but thanks to the blizzard in Colorado, it is now Saturday, and still no camera. I feel stupid for paying for overnight shipping when I now probably won't get it until next week.

I'm really hoping some clever UPS guy didn't decide to take it home as a Christmas present. I would be very very upset.

That was informative. I plan to go to the AMQ for future SD shooting, but as I mentioned before, Citidisk or Firestore is next on my wishlist. Just dropped $5300 on this baby.......need to catch my breath:) HD here I come!!

I seen that on national news.....you'll feel alot better when you finally get to hold it.
Shipping will be never be thought of again. Let me know how that turns out.
 
Hooray, I got my HVX today! I don't have any P2 cards yet, so I'm going to try to record some stuff direct to FCP later, but I already love it. It's beautiful.
