got my hpx and dont want to make a mistake!

ok, formatting in the camera is fine, yes? why are some people weird about doing that?

and I think i recall something about needing to get some software to make e-series cards work well with... something?

Any other basic tips to keep in mind would be good.

Sorry for the amateur hour thread but it's all new to me and i dont want to mess anything up.

hey man basically you have to update the firmware of the camera and use the panasonic download site to update the firmware of the camera to support the E series card.

go there and download.

and yes formatting in the camera is from my experience fine although you can also do it in the p2 formatter which is software for your mac/pc

Seems silly that it would come with a e-series card and not be able to use them out of th ebox. and it looks like they want me to have a sd card in the slot? I dont have one. lame.

Depending when you purchased your camera, you may already have the latest
update for the HPX. Just check in your menu section...

If your firmware is 1.10, then you are set to go with your E-Cards!

Formatting in camera is ok, but be careful that you don't format a card that hasn't been dumped! I always eject all cards, then insert the card to be formatted, format it, and then and only then do I re-insert the other card.

Now If you have an AC then you can go ahead and put this task on her/his shoulders, or not.....the only time when formatting a card in camera doesn't make sense is when you are needing to constantly record, in which case it's VERY important to have the cards be clean when they come back to you.

ok my camera can recognize the e cards fine it seems, but there is a missing link somewhere because i plug my camera into the computer and nothing happens. I try to import with FCP and nothing happens. I foudn that page with a ton of software and firmware upgrade options but i dont know what is what and what i need.
