They redampened the focus, declicked the iris mechanisms, press fitted delrin focus gears onto them and put 80mm step-up fronts on them.

Couldn't be happier! :2vrolijk_08:

NNnggg crap. I really don't want to spend money getting gears press-fitted but looks like that's what it's gotta be.

Thats not too bad of a price really when you consider the cost of outfitting them all with follow focus gears anyways... I may have to consider this... Wonder what just the gears would cost...

20mm f2.8
24mm f2.0
35mm f1.4
50mm f1.4
85mm f1.4
135mm f2.0

nice collection but no 50mm 1.2 ais? I bought a 180mm 2.8 ED for the MKII I felt I needed it for full frame

I'll have to do this when the MKII makes me some more money but it's a bit scary shipping all of my precious nikkors to the US.

what adapters are you using?

I finally found one on ebay that fits pretty nicely with no play on the lens side and minimal play on the body side. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Adapter-Fits...id=p4634.c0.m14.l1262&_trkparms=|293:1|294:30

the de clicked aperture - does that have gearing ?

is the purpose to exactly control exposure or to pull iris in shot?

Um...both. It's nice to utilize the 2.8/4 split that many people seem to prefer.

I've used both the default Nikkor and Zeiss sets from RP lens. Top notch work, really. It's nice to know you can get the lenses modded without buying the lens itself from him.

Ayup. Sometimes you might see two remote gears on a lens. Ones on the focus and ones on the iris so that when camera action transitions from outside to in or in any situation where exposure becomes a problem in the middle of a shot you can ramp briefly.

And definitely what Rudd said about splits. Although it's mote like 4~5.6 split for mkii. It's nice to be able to go just beyond a stop for perfect exposures.

I'm probably not gonna get my lenses declicked however, but I think gearing them is the nex step.

I think my only concern is that the position of the gears changes so you have to shift your ff when you change lenses.

It would be nice if the iris was geared - these lenses are just too small!

Makes sense that the 4/5.6 split is better for the MKii. I didn't some shooting on a borrowed 5D with my Nikon 85 f/2 prime wide open. Pulling was nuts.

Kholi - do you prefer the clicks? Or just wouldn't use the split enough to justify it financially?

Actually that's exactly why I wouldn't bother with paying the extra to de-click the iris ring. It's too small to be bothered with gearing. That and so long as you don't nudge the Zeiss Iris Rings it sits at the split point fine.

I think the Zeiss ZF's have in betweens as well, so 2.8 to 4 actually has a click between 2.8 and 4.

I do often use splits, just haven't had much trouble doing it with the glass that I have.

However, gearing sounds like it might be a must have. A few things I really do not like about the plastic gears is that they shift, are too large in most cases and have knobs that interfere with placement. Have to make sure that the ff doesn't hit it and all that.
