Got a new Mac Pro, installed FCP, transfered my files. Now FCP runs SLOW!

Hey guys.
So I was gifted a 2010 mac pro from a friend of mine who left the industry. I currently edit on a gen 2.1 mac pro, so I thought this was gonna be a very very nice upgrade.

So I bought a 2nd internal 2tb 7200 rpm 32 meg cache WD black to be a FCP storeage drive. I transfered all my p2 footage and FCP edited materials from previous jobs over to the new drive. Installed the new drive into the new machine and started up FCP for the first time. I retrieved an edit I did last month and it took FOREVER to load up the file and once it did, any action I did took 2-3 minutes for the computer to respond. I am talking a simple click on a clip would take 2 minutes before the computer would "highlight" that clip.

I have no idea what could be wrong. Is it that the drive is too slow? I have a hard time thinking that because I use the same drive type for storeage on my "old" mac pro.

Now one thing I noticed. If I open a new project, import some old P2 footage and play around with it. The computer is as quick as ever.

What did I do wrong?!

Who knows- I'd just start a new project and drag the footage and sequences into it. There might be some cache/temp files that were on the older drive that are getting confused by the brain transplant.

Can you give us the hardware specs? How much RAM? How much of your Scratch drive is free space? What is the capacity of your OS drive, and how much of it is free space? What version of the OS and FCP?

I trust you installed FCS on the new machine from the original install discs? No archive and install, migration, or time machine?

The drive is perfectly fine

My guess...and its just a guess...is the project file from an older version of Final Cut? Since it's a new computer for you, perhaps your working off a different revision of FCP?

I've never seen that problem, but the fact that importing P2 footage into a new timeline fixes the problem, I'd pretty much guarantee its the project file causing the issue somehow. But I have zero idea why that would occur, other than version differences

Or perhaps the project file has SO MUCH on the timeline, your system is running out of memory to handle it, which would also cause the slowdown, as opposed to just putting a few shots into a new timeline. If it is loading multiple sequences, each with a ton of footage, that could be a source of slowdown as well.

Post some more info...it would help
