I'm looking to do a timelapse for an event, set up, during and then takedown.
I don't want to use a good DSLR as the camera will be left alone for long periods.

Anyone here have any experience with this and got some reco's?

Cheers!

gopro is fine for timelapse if you are ok with the distortion of the wide lens.
gopro is weather proof too...
just no good in low light situation... :)
you can vary from 0.5 img/s ! good for speed action timelapse!

There are loads of examples on YT and Vimeo. A lot of guys are using cheap kitchen timers to do cool pans with the timelapse. Very easy to do.

Make sure you set the auto shutoff to "Never", because it's strangely not disabled if you have an active timelapse going. I found this out the hard way once. Came back after an hour and found the camera off with only 60 seconds worth of images.

Aside from that, if the lighting is going to vary a lot, you may run into some problems since there's no way around the auto exposure.

But I've used it very successfully many times for stand alone timelapses or cutting it into an HD sequence.
