Google will store all your photos, and 1080p video for free

I'm trying to stay as far away from anything Google as much as I can. Have a few email accounts and YouTube account and that's already too much ;)

Don't feel comfortable having to much with a company making their money selling advertisements and every product is a vehicle to that end.

Can I get a big Amen to this!

Make no mistake, Google is NOT doing this because they're "good guys". IMO, they're actually the exact opposite!

Oh, great ... the proletariat of all countries unite ... as if Yahoo, AOL or MSN were any different.

Get used to it. You just described the internet in general and the future of marketing and advertising. Don't like it then you better find a rock to live under. Even my company uses marketing automation software to help pin point ads and marketing to our customers based on how they use our website.

We as a society always seem to Target the giant and forget about everybody else doing it. We criticize Wal-Mart for their employment policies and yet never criticize Target, Best Buy or any other retail store who equally pays people very little money. We target McDonalds for unhealthy fast food as if they are the only ones doing it and yet Wendys and Burger King have more calories and fat content in their food. People are getting fatter from the other fast food chains than they are from McDonalds yet we always seem to pick on McDonalds. Why do we do this? Why pick on just Google when even Apple does the same thing. What the heck do you think Siri is doing every time you tell her to search for something obscene and funny. She remembers that and Apple uses that data to make your phone smarter and to market stuff to you a bit better. You know you had an iPhone for too long when it starts auto correcting words into profanity because it and Apple knows how you usually speak to your friends.

So lets say what should really have been meant. People don't trust cloud computing and storing their personal lives on public servers. Fair enough and I completely understand. Just don't try to label Google as the only company interested in on-line analytical marketing data.

What exactly do you fear?

Storing my information on the Internet like a giant HDD is something I will avoid as long as I can, especially considering the HDD are going up in size so much and you can get things like this for $30.

Reads 2.5, 3.5, and SSD's.

I"m surprised at the negative reaction. Yes, they are going to sell ads somewhere. That's how we got free broadcast TV. That's why youtube is free to use, advertisement. That's why Iheart radio and pandora are free, advertisement.

I just dont' see this as any different. someone trying to sell me some new Nikes or a new Apple cell phone just doesn't seem that sinister to me. If you don't want to buy it, don't click on the ad.
I go do a search for tripods on Google or any search engine for that matter, then if I go on Facebook what do I see on the right of the screen? Surprise! A big ad for tripods. Or if I look at camera lenses on eby, then I go to Facebook right there in my feed is a post from Ebay, "Hey, still interested in that camera lens?"
Does this bother me that companies are trying to find me if I'm looking for something so they can sell it to me? Not really.

This is politics! Are you living under a rock? Read a book or two instead of watching zombie movies.

1. No Politics
We've tried it and it doesn't work. There are many other sites where you can discuss politics, just not this one.

Also:

3. No Personal Attacks
Personal insults of any sort are not tolerated. If you feel another user’s post is inappropriate, please report the post or contact a moderator. Participating in a flame war is uncool even if someone else started it—and just like mom and dad, we’ll give you both timeouts

i always ask Siri what she is wearing this evening, I wonder if that's why I get all those Victoria Sexrwts adds?

I'd rather not offer Google even more data mining opportunities... so I'll just keep using a hard drive.

Also, I do enjoy fast food on occasion and shop at Target.

Really? They will store ALL my video for free? Well it will take me awhile to upload it as I've got like 150 TB or so.....but if it's free......
