Goofy people dancing in slow mo

Greetings... Thought I'd post a quick little edit I did for a Church Easter performance. Shot in about 30 minutes at the end of a dance rehearsal. 720, 60 p with the master ped way way down. Turned out pretty decently but the lighting in the location needed to be back of stage to get the effect and it was front so it worked somewhat. ON other vids we'll have the stuff going on where it can be read easily. Was fun to shoot and the kids got a kick out of it. Let me know what you think and if you have any questions shoot them off... cheers

Cheers. It really does. I shot this in 60p and it just didn't look good in normal speed except on the few people who know how to dance. That's where slow-mo comes in. It helps in turning things ordinary into extraordinary, and covering stuff up and adding impact to things. It just helps to set it up. Now if these were trained dancers, I might have edited it totally differently.. but it turned out well for what it was.

cheers

Justyn,

What are your export settings?

Obviously you edit in pro res. What are your compressor settings for web viewing? Or are you using a different program?

Thanks a ton man! Your stuff looks sharp!

Best,

Jordan Berry

Cheers Jordan. My export settings are just a somewhat custom 264 quicktime out of compressor. usually somewhere in the medium to high range and tend to be 640x360 size. Is this what you were wondering?

Ya i am oddly wondering the exact same thing as Jordan, looks amazing for streaming. I cant seem to get that =/

I'll have to check out my editing settings when I get back to the studio. I did spend a huge amount of time tweeking this stuff years and years ago and I know what to work with and what not to. I also think that the 264 is awesome.. way better than MPG4 and such. That's the largest part of it.. and also, its good to have a nice load of bandwiith and also a good service provider like dreamhost. Some people complain about the size of some of my files.. but I tend to prefer to wait 5 seconds and see something looking really good. A lot of the low-data sized flash stuff just doesn't look so good..

I'll report back but there's probably not that much that I do than you guys. Just simple transcoding in FCP and exporting it out through compressor. cheers!

Yes oh master of Compressor, bless us with your knowledge!

I've gotten really good results with frame control but the encoding time is just unrealistic.

Something tells me Justyn doesn't use frame controls ;)

K guys. This is the settings I used for that clip and I use it mostly.

Width: 640, height:360, pixel: Square, Frame Rate (100 percent). Frame controls: OFF,
Codec: H.264, Multi-Pass: On, Frame reorder: On, Pixel Depth:24, Spatial quality:50, min spacial quality:25, Key frame interval:24, Temporal quality: 50, Min Temp quality:25, Fast Start:On, Compressed Header, The video quality is set at medium

That's all of it guys. Hope this helps. I do have other settings I use for youtube and for iphone and stuff like that.

Yep.. that's pretty much what I've been doing for a while. cheers and look forward to seeing your clips

I would think that it would be good but I think that vimeo and others might allow for even more quality in the compression. I'd say to do a test and report back. Does it have a 1 gig file limit like youtube?

ahhh that's a bit of a bummer. Vimeo never really streams right on my system anyway.. I've preferred just to throw stuff up on my server...
