Goodbye

How old are you? FYI, the younger you are from 23 the more I hate you, only because I want to be that talented so young. So here's some stuff that sucked, the dolly moves were a little rickety and ummm that's about it. If people start giving you crap about breaking the 180 rule tell them to suck a nut. It's rare to see someone who knows how to work crossing the frame like that, nice work. And also the first pat on the head the grandpa gives is very awkwardly hilarious.

haha, thank you! I'm actually 17 and just graduated high school. Yeah, as for the dolly shots I did the best that I could, what I used for my dolly was a flatbed wagon that I got at harbor freight, so I didn't necissarily have access to the best equipment but I did what I could. Also, what do you mean by the 180 rule?

A circle is 360 degrees and
half of that is 180
You draw an imaginary line between your actors
and stay on one side of line when you are
doing reversals and such, meaning you don't
cross your line. look at some movies and
you will hardly see a camera jumping
over the line. Hope that makes sense.

Don't worry about it. It's not really important unless your doing people sitting down over the shoulder shots. I just remember awhile back there was this one kid that posted a video that didn't have an establishing shot, crap was given, and it was totally fine without it they just wanted him to follow these rules because they're "professional" rules for how a movie should be made, thinking professional means impact, but didn't take into account the emotional content and drive was there without the gratuitous establishing shot, and I didn't want to the kid to think he sucked or was making the movie wrong when he wasn't.

sorry, but what you're saying there is totally wrong. The 180 degree rule is an important rule. If you don't follow the rule it will make your movie look less good, less cinematic and less professional. (yes I'm serious)
Now I'm not saying that you should give people crap because they didn't follow it, but everyone should learn it.
It really is disturbing to watch when people break it...

I'm not gonna whine about it, I think you made a nice movie there. Good looking footage most of it.

thanks for all of the advice

yeah i was kind of going for more of the music video feel, i wanted to tell a story just through the video and the music working together, that's the kind of stuff that i want to get into

Nice work. I would say that you really don't need the granddaughter's voice over at the beginning. Little did she know that it would be the last time she talked to him, but I knew long before grandpa hung up the phone. If, by chance, someone misses the point (not likely) they'll have at least 8 more minutes to figure it out.

oh believe me i know, i didn't want to have to use copyrighted music because i've dealt with it before in the past and it's a pain, but i came up with the concept while listening to those songs and it would be hard for me to do it with anything else
