Good transfer device for flash (SDHC) cards? HMC-40 maybe?

I'm new to the flash cards. I was wondering, what do you folks recommend for transferring video from these cards, shot by the HMC-40, to my mac's? I did a few small transfers using the HMC-40 itself using a USB cord, but I'm not sure if that's recommended. So before I start transferring large files, I want to make sure I'm doing it right. At least the most efficient way.

Is it okay to use the camera itself? Should I get an external card reader like this one?

What do you all use? I want something that's going to be relatively fast and safe to use.

ok so i have the hmc 150 but it uses the same cards and recording format which im sure u know but i wont ever plug my camera directly into the computer im afraid that doing that will fry my camera. so i went to best buy and bought the cheapest sdhc card reader the have. it coast me $15. it works great, no problems i have captured close to 50 hours this way and i haven't ever had any problems with it.

Cool, thanks for the response! I'll be transferring about 50 hours of footage every month though. Maybe even every couple of weeks depending on my workload. I'd really like to hear from somebody that has had any experiences with the firewire transfer device I linked above or one similar to it. I'd like to have the fastest transfers possible.

FWIW, it appears the Firewire device you've linked is for CF cards only (Type I and II).

I have (2) Transcend SDHC card readers that are USB 2.0, and they're relatively fast. They also free up the camera to keep shooting while copying files - and it doesn't take that long to transfer a full 16GB card.

I'd definitely buy a card reader for your PC and use that to transfer (not 'capture') the files to your computer. You definitely don't want to use your camera for that, given the huge volume you plan on doing.

I use the card reader built into my laptop, and it works great. Just make sure you get one that will read SDHC cards, not just SD cards. Should be 20 bucks or less.
