Good Storyboarding Software

I use Toon Boom Storyboard. I have the basic version that can export PDF. The pro version can do animatics which would be nice but I didn't really have a need for. The interface takes some getting used to, but it is really flexible as far as organizing, rearranging, etc.

Why do you need to draw? There is a ton of pics & stock photos out there which can be used. Or use your DSLR to do quick shots.

Well on another thought dont you think David that uaing stick footage/photos we are limiting our creativity. With the stocks we are restricted. The idea for storyboarding is to pre conceive shots with angle for takes and thus we need to atleast implement our thought out with atleast stick art. You may choose to disagree but I feel it wpuld be too restricting.

Like I said, that was just an easy example of a storyboard using stock. The whole point of it was to sell the client on the idea with a minimal amount of time and money invested, not to dictate shot angles. Since I shoot, rather than storyboard all that, I compile a shot list and shooting schedule before the shoot. I don't need to draw stick people with motion arrows and such because I can see the shots in my head. Of course there are different storyboards for different uses.

Here is a free (at least in beta) online storyboarding tool I have been using that i like a lot- only works in Chrome for me- but for free I ain't complaining. It does not have a drawing component but it does allow you to lay down an audio track and collaborate online.

Storyboarding isnt really software can help you with directly in my opinion.

right now i draw em by hand then scan them in and put it in avid or celtx storyboarding program to organize and share. Some people def use stock footage and shots from other media in their storyboards , i use a couple here and there, ive seen some big directors do that as well, but they throw them on boards to reference
