Good start with lenses?

I've been searching around and couldn't find the answer i was hoping for so here goes: what would be a good start for getting some lenses for close to wide shots with the HVX200 and the SGBlade adapter?
I'm not concerned on lens brands, only the mm size and f-stops of any lens that work well with this gear.

thanks!

I haven't used the SGBlade.

How wide do you want? There are a few utilities online I am sure you can find which will tell you the field of view in degrees of lenses at specific focal lengths, like 17mm, 25mm, 35mm, etc.

The sky is the limit with lenses, but you get what you pay for, in my experience. I love Canon's L lenses.

And just to help you out, by f-stops, I think you mean speed (aka how fast a lens is), referring to the amount of light lost by going through a lens. A Canon 28-105 f/4 L vs Canon 24-70 f/2.8, the 24-70 is a faster lens and loses less light.

not sure what you mean by "what would be a good start?"
are you asking what brands? what speeds? what focal length? good lenses can be expensive. do you already have an sgblade?

thanks for the replies! i read online somewhere that by using an adapter, not all lenses will work. i can't specify the technicalities of them as i am a novice when it comes to lenses but i do remember coming across something of that sort. like using prime/fast lenses are the best choice. for example grimrebes statement on the Canon 24-70 f/2.8 lens. i am not asking about brands as much as where the limits are with the adapter i will soon have ( my sgblade is on its way in the mail now.)
guess i opened up a can of worms as grimrebes says, 'the sky is the limit with lenses'. what i want to do is get a couple of wide shots then to medium and some close ups. i need to have a significant amount of out of focus in the backgrounds on the medium and close shots. any suggestions as to which prime lenses i could use with the sgblade?
sorry about the lame lens talking on my part but i am searching other sites to gather more info on basic photography to help me out. i shot a short film with a bare HVX200 and now its time to get into that wonderful DOF world!

in just about any adapter situation the FASTER the lens (lower the f-stop) the better. primes (meaning fixed focal length as opposed to zooms) are preferred. i keep a couple of zooms on hand but generally a GOOD, FAST zoom is EXPENSIVE. the ones i use are kind of middle range of that scale.

but really lenses are a total taste issue. you can do great things with a $20 pawn shop lens and you can do great things with a new $2000 lens. its just a matter of what suits your desired look.

the first question is what lens mount did you order with your sgblade? or did you get several? having options is good, but you likely wont want to be switching mounts on set. thats just one more headache to deal with. nikon and canon are the most popular - due in part that they are the most prevalent. i chose to go nikon. mainly because i already had a few old nikon lenses. and more often than not i think i like the look of nikon. but again, its a personal choice. and either will be great.

one thing to keep in mind is that older manual focus, non-digital lenses. are generally the way to go.

as far as focal length. you want as many options as you can afford. my kit has a 35, 55, 85, 110. those get me generally what i need. but as always - i am always on the hunt for another groovy lens.

i would suggest that you go to the websites of the adapter manufacturers: shoot35, cinevate, redrock, cinemek and others. you will find a lot more specific information there than here.

i did just that, going to shoot35 forum, and got a lot of lens info there. many thanks wgzn for your input, it is really helpful!! i actually have went with a less popular Pentax mount for the exact reason you chose your mount wgzn, i already have a Pentax lens to start with. besides i have used it in the past and was happy with it. who knows maybe later on down the road i will pick up another mount to put on the adapter.
if i end up getting something interesting to share from my adapter endeavors, i will post it for some critiquing.

I also have a kmount and a set of pentax lenses. Check out my youtube channel and you'll get a pretty good look at what the sgblade with pentax will look like. I also have a video showcasing ALL my lenses, with polarizer and image enhancers on. What pentax lens/s do you have?

You probably won't ever buy another mount because you'll end up investing in a few more pentax lenses and be pretty happy with them. I did think about getting a pl mount because theres a few of those lenses floating around in my sphere of influence that I'd like to try but on a completely amateur stance I'm going to go on a limb and say the lenses your shooting on have very little to do with the quality of the shot.
