Good Sound requires Good preamp?

Boom and mixer can be combined into one person, ENG sound guys swinging a boom while wearing a mixer and a couple or four radios on their person are not uncommon, though they are busier than a one-armed paper-hanger on the shoot. But trying to combine boom, mixer, and camera into one person, maybe replacing the boomer with a mic stand, like many forum posters seem to want to do, is well nigh impossible if you want any of it to come off properly.

The amazing thing about a one-man band is not the beauty and artistry of the music he makes.

I don't agree completely to this. It's true that for ENG sound one soundman can do all, but... they never have to hold a boompole which is 5ft long, completely strecht out and arms completely strecht out because of a shadow... and I'm not talking about directing the mice and moving the mice to have the dialogue as perfect. For ENG, dialogues don't have to be "perfect", once it's understandable it's ok. Also lavaliers don't have to be hided under clothes (clothes sound).

Booming is not an easy job as many think, it's the most important job on a set next to the focus puller in my opinion. It doesn't matter a shot is perfect acted or has a perfect frame when the focus is not good, or the boomer didn't catch the dialogues very well.

SO for movies ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS 2 persons !!!! One to hold the boom, with 2 hands, so he can concentrate on having dialogues as perfect as possible, watching out for shadows. And a 2nd person who does the mixing.

If you want to have your movie good.. Minimum crew is : 1 director, 1 AD, 1 continuity-person, 2 soundpeople, 1 cameraman, 1 camera-assistent, 1 lightman, 1 runner, 2 catering people, 2 people to stop cars and to be everyone in the neighborhoud to be quiet. So forget the idea of 1 men's crew.. for movies.. For things like website-news, commercials with voice-over, company movies shown intern... 1men is ok, 2 men is better.

Says WHO?
First off I NEVER have an exposed mic EVER unless im doing the typical news programs (today, 20/20,nightline..etc)
When do you see exposed mic's in any if not ALL reality shows where an ENG mixer is doing it all?
And you think once a voice is understandable its "ok"? Give me a break.
