good software for archiving footage

Hi everyone,

I'm helping out a local tv station archiving footage.

So what happened is they found some boxes, I think a lot with many old mini-dv tapes and other tapes.

It would be a waste to let all the footage just sit there So we are looking for a good dependable software/hardware solution with metadata capabilities.

I have no idea what this will cost and where to begin. I guess we could start the old prelude premiere route but is there anything better or faster ?

Any suggestions or links to will be greatly appreciated.
