Good news for TVLogic VFM-056W owners

I found out that the TVLogic VFM-056W can be converted to the TVLogic VFM-056WP (with all the extra functions like waveform, scope, etc) with a simple password.

You purchase the password from any reseller (~$500), send them your serial number and the next day they give you a custom password to unlock all the extra features.

  • Waveform/Vector Scope: Displays waveform luminance (Y Level) and Vesctor Scope (B-Y, R-Y on XY axis) in Y/Cb/Cr, Wide and Line modes
  • Range Error: Selected values (Y MAX, Y MIN, C MAX, C MIN) are indicated in WAVEFORM/VECTOR* or Y/Cb/Cr modes
  • Y Level Check: Displays Y Level as a solid color on screen to assist in exposure adjustments

we bought 2 unit one in june and the other in october the first did not had the zebra feature
but the second one had in Our reseller came to ouroffice and perform the update for free.

Today I drove to TVLogic in Burbank and had them install the WP enabling passcode (I prepaid online) and the latest firmware (which they did for free.) It took about 25 minutes.

The passcode is based upon the serial number for the monitor. Everything works like a charm. My God, how did I do without these. Well, when I didn't have S-Log I could get by with the histogram and peaking on the camera. Now I need more.

The waveform, false color and vector scope are very handy for checking myself for accuracy. The wave form can be stretched 2x (twice as high but the same width) to give you more accuracy. I do wish there was more than one function button. On the plus side is the function button cycles through the variations of that function. Also, the various scopes can be changed to different sizes.

Right now I have focus assist mapped as the function. In this case its peaking. You can pick your color for the peaking. When you press the function button you go from FA off, to FA mono with peaking, then to FA color with peaking, then back to off. Its a better peaking function than the on camera one, and has strength adjustments. In low light the camera one fails me.

The latest firmware allows you to set zebras at various levels. The upgrade is not a user upgrade. Get the latest or you have to take it in.

For what its worth, if you are getting a TVLogic, get the VFM-056WP. Much higher resolution than the EVFs (1280 vs. 800 wide). Lots of necessary functions, especially if you have or want S-Log.
