Good mid-range lens and accessories for HPX500?

Hey Guys,

We're looking at picking up an HPX500 to replace our HVX200. I'm just wondering which lens (something that costs less than the camera preferably) and accessories you would recommend we get it with?

Cheers,

The Fuji lenses are less than the camera and perform extremely well for a sub-$10,000 lens.

I haven't tested the Canon lenses.

Definitely get the CAC lenses. Huge difference. We had a midrange Canon lens (25k) as a loaner when we were waiting for our Canon 2x with CAC. The CA out of that midrange lens, especially with extender engaged, was pretty bad. With the CAC lens it is not noticeable, unless you really push it.

I didn't buy a stock lens with my package. I rented high quality lenses from a friend of mine until I found a use high quality lens at sharply discounted price.

Personaly I don't see any point in owning a cheap lens if you intend to do hogh end professional work because the client, at least my clients, expect the best

Icarus,
Just for the record, my clients expect the best as well, and I believe that they get it - even with my fuji lens.

Grug's question was "where can I find a good lens that goes for less than the cost of the camera?"

With the exception of the breathing (which I will admit can be quite frustrating), a moderately priced CAC lens will handle all but the most critical work.

Well Grug, I like the firestore. Works well with the HPX. I like the IDX mount which allows for the IDX adapter bracket for professional lav receiver attachment, Chrosziel rod plate (thanks for the tip Dave), works nicely with any mattebox. Pana monitor on a Noga arm.

Some not so obvious: Pana power tap cable for monitor - plugs straight into cam (costs too much) but very useful. I just got the IDX X3 light which I am meant to be writing up in Japanese now (for the free units) THANKS IDX!!!! Great little LED light BTW. Very bright - much more than its 30watt expected output (expect to use a full cto to match with the typical tungsten lights). Of course the Pana raincoat.

Theres more (sadly more $)...

its not just the breathing, the image looks better to me on higher quality lens, for me, working mostly in commercials and music videos, there is a lot of what you call "critical" work. Ans while on some shoots that "critical" work may only be 1 or 2% of the shoot, I can't risk my director asking for a long lens rack focus shot and me saying I can't do that, or have it breath like crazy; because his response will be "why not, all other pros do it?"

that's not to say a DP can't be up front with a director and tell them this package brings a lens that isn't top of the line and explain its limitation and offer the director to rent a better lens at a higher price before the shoot.
