good match for the GH1

I'm shooting weddings with the GH1 (2 of them) and I'd like to have a stationary camera up the back on a wide shot for coverage.

I'm looking at camera's like the Panasonic SD700 but I've had coments that it's not a great colour match.

I'm assuming that I'm best to stick to a cmos sensor to match the GH1 - is that a dumb assumption? should I be looking at cameras like the canon Vixia? - I'm not sure I just know I loved the look of my Canon HV30 until I got the GH1.

any experience out there?

I don't think CMOS matters, but I can tell ya that using a cheap palmcorder won't match very well...except for Sunny outdoor weddings. But, it all pays the same...so use what fits your budget...for example I'm using a Panasonic SD9 (native 1920x1080/24p) as my backup/unmanned wide angle on a light stand in the back of the venue. It's tiny, cheap (could get stolen or knocked over and broke) and matches just fine in good lighting. However, at most weddings, there's NOT good lighting...so it looks bad. It's a trade-off, but I don't use much footage from it anyways.

I was looking to replace it with a 2nd GH1....maybe put the 20mm f1.7 on the unmanned GH1 during the ceremony. Then again, that might match even worse...since the 20mm would be bright and properly exposed...while the main camera would be dark and noisy. :D

Good luck!

I'm going to try the GF1 as a wide angle up the back - hopefully the match will be pretty good

I'll be filming my second wedding in a month (first since I decided to get serious about it) and I, too, am trying to find a 2nd camera to match my GH1. I've heard recommendations for another GH1 or perhaps a Pany TM700. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

the best match is obviously another GH1, I'm using 2 for weddings and looking for a 3rd as a wide angle coverage shot. I've got a GF1 to try but I can't help feeling I'd be better off with a 'camcorder' type camera for versatility - dunno?

why would the other GH1 be dark and noisy? use a fast lens on that too

Shooting weddings with a $20 antique eBay prime is not always ideal. Real camcorders are still WAY more practical for wedding/event work.

To simply get the GH1 to compare to the cheap HMC40, you'd need an f1.8-2.8 20-245mm zoom (not to mention auto focus/focus aperture capabilities). That would be a BEAST of a lens...and probably cost more than a new car.

Not that you can't "make do" with it...I've probably shot about 50 weddings with my GH1. ;)

Plus, you can move around a lot more with the GH1 than with a regular video camera...since the mean church ladies think you're taking pictures. :D
