sennheiser ew100 g2 system is the way to go for entry level. The stock mic that comes with it is not good, needs to be replaced with countryman emw (or better) wired for g2.

Hey Buck,
The Sennheiser wireless is definitely a solid wireless system. If you're looking for options too, there is the new Sony UWP-V1 wireless system (goes head to head with the Sennheiser EW112 G2) There is a whole thread on here in the Audio forum about the new Sony system, and you can also check it out here,

Personally, I'd say you can't go wrong either way. The Sennheiser has been out there longer and is definitely tried and true, but the Sony will be one to watch for. Best of luck,

Thanks for the info. I've heard alot of reccomendations on the Sennheiser. I find it weird that most audio guys I work with use the lectrosonics 200 and 400 but I haven't run across anyone that has used the cheaper lectro 100 series.

Personally I'd love the opportunity to work with the Lectro's too, but as we typically work with stuff that we can recommend to prosumers who want the most bang for their buck and don't always have a huge budget, the Sennheiser has ended up being the most solid system. The Sony's work well too, but there are some differences that would boil down to being a matter of preference.

there any chance to find a good setup for under $400 I'm not trying to spend too much but I'm also not willing to give up too much quality. If its that huge of the difference I can spend the extra 1-200

$500 seems to be about the lowest cost for wireless that will still give favorable results.

There are options under $400, such as from Azden, but I wouldn't waste the money. You'll soon learn that you need to go back and spend another $500 on a decent system (Sennheiser, Sony).

In vest in one of the Sony or Sennheiser systems now, and save up another $300 to get a really good lav to go with it in the future (Sanken, Countryman, Tram).

Sony UWP-V1 = $499
Sennheiser EW112 G2 = $549

Definitely worth it. We just had the Audio Technica 1800 series in here (the dual channel receiver, so more expensive) and it didn't hold up to either of those systems. Spend the money now on one of those systems is my advice, and when you get a bit more cash, just get a countryman B3 or B6, and you'll never look back.

Countryman B6 lav video (it's the only mic used, positioned on her chest, for both her and guitar)

Still waiting to get a few more shots and audio before posting our test results on the Sony system, but for the price it's very solid, sound wise it's as good as the sennheiser, there's a few difference in the units themselves though. No VU meter (the Sennheiser has VU meter on the packs), different controls, etc.

Check it out
