All of us know about this camera, but I am sure there are many still that don't
(everyone living in caves).
If Panasonic offered a discount to the first 1,000 people that signed up, they could use that to help promote awareness.
Give it to us for $5,000 even.
The line could start here <---------
They could sell it directly to us consumers thus not affecting
(maybe improving thier profit).
They would be paying us back by willing to embrace this format,
and being guinea pigs for them.
The publicity alone would generate more interest and sales on the official release.
The news media would pick up on it, and it could be the only camera with this type of hype. Even people in elementary school would be talking about it.
It could be known as the only camera to get if you are serious or want to be thought of that way.
All Panasonic has to do is generate a website to sign up under
(they get a free customer list too)
Pay a small fee to pre order
(say $500, which panasonic can put in their bank account and earn interest on till release).
We get awarded a P2 card as proof of pre-order.
They can be serialized to match the cameras, and to avoid fraud.
We later show that as proof of pre-order status.
We get a $1,000 discount and a camera directly from Panasonic so panasonic doesn't really lose because they cut out the middle man retailer only on this pre-order sale.
Panasonic might want to also consider throwing in something extra with these first 1,000 cameras to help retain their prestige and value.
Afterall, who wants the "first" camera on a used market?
Maybe add a third P2 slot only on these cameras.
I think they would have a full line in only a week or 2.
They could even give us that ugly purple color to distinguish these first buyers.
And give us a lifetime waranty for our eagerness to jump in faithfully.
