What makes a good framed shot. Is there anything out there with examples. Im trying to learn about it more and just want to hit it on traget. Obvisouly, ive learned there is no ONE SECRET, but I dont know any secrets or basics to correct framing. Any threads, articles, etc.

First rule is the rule of thirds.

Imagine a shot is divided into thirds, in this case, vertically. There's a top third, a middle third, and a bottom third.

When framing a person, you should usually put his/her eyes on the imaginary line which would divide the top and middle thirds.

Very basic rule. But good for a start.

now in thirds, does this also include if shooting in lettermode. does the third start on the visible or the whole frame. i think i know the answer but just double checking..

any frames to show this. thanks

for any aspect ratio, the rule of thirds applies. divide your frame into threes with three rows and three columns, both vertically and horizontally (so your frame is cut into nine pieces). it is generally a safe choice to position key objects of your frame (actors head, body, buidlings, eyes, whatever the main object of the shot is) in the intersection of the lines dividing your image into nine pieces.

play with triangles and angles, never going straight of flat. triangles/angles add depth. roads or longs line should go through the frame, from say the bottom left to the top right, giving a 3d feeling. just a few tips.

Turn on your TV or watch a movie. 99% time there's a shot of a person, their following the rule of thirds.

Ya know, though, lately of been shooting a bit differently. I tend to JUST chop the top of people's heads off. Thus leaving thier eye's where they fall (usually a bit higher than the "third" line).
