Good Compression Rates

I'm wanting to know what everyones favorite compression rates are. Once I'm done with a project I compress it to h.264 so that I have a archival type copy of the project just incase I want to use it later. The problem is that I mostly use the default setting in Compressor to compress the file. I know I can make the file size smaller but I haven't the time to sit around and experiment with what will work. I would like something that is small but doesn't have any noticeable loss in quality. I'm working in both SD and HD. What do you guys suggest? Are there certain rules I should be following?

What is your time worth?
They're certainly not magical formulas. If you have the time to play around with Compressor, you can achieve the same settings by trial and error.
If you don't want to mess with it and just be able to drag and drop then these are a good set of settings to do that.
Just depends on what your time is worth. For me, it was worth the $39.
