Good Bag for GH1

What bags are people using for the GH1? I'm looking for something that's pretty portable--just big enough to hold the body, kit lens, an adapter, and two or three smaller Canon FD primes.

The only one recommended at B&H for this camera is the Panasonic bag for the G1, but the description said it only has enough room for the kit G1 lens which I'm assuming is significantly smaller at only 14-45mm?

I'm a camera bag junky, and have been trying to find a slimmer "messenger" type bag to carry on me all day when shooting weddings. (I have to squeeze between tables, shoot in cramped spaces, and leaving a bag full of gear laying around to be stolen is not an option.)

I also need easy top access for quickly swapping lenses.

The best one I've found so far is the Naneu Pro - Military Ops - Lima

I used to be a die-hard Lowepro fan...but I love this Naneu Pro bag! It's perfectly sized for the small GH1...not so much for a pro-DSLR.

It doesn't fit ALL of my wedding kit...I carry an extra bag for other various items/spare camera. However, it holds a GH1 body, 14-140, 45-200, 7-14, 20, 45, FaderND with metal hood attached, 3 extra batteries, pelican SDHC case, some cables, documents, and other little stuff. And with all that, it's still pretty small and easy to carry all day.

Most of the ones I see for sale online seem to be an older model. They had the newer model (like the one pictured on the website) available at a local camera store. (If it has a compass attached to the front of the bag...it's apparently the old style with a different padded insert. The newer ones have some big goofy metal clamp attached to the front...which you can just toss...it's junk.)

In addition to lots of slim pockets, and a nice padded strap, it also has a zippered slot on the back, so that you can slip it over the handle of your luggage when rolling through airports.

But camera bags are totally personal...I research online...but buy locally so that I can see it in person first. They cost more locally, but they deserve the sale for having it available in person to look at before purchase, IMHO.

Totally agree, Faith.

One of the things I like about the Think Tank bag (and your bag) is that they don't scream "hey, there's a bunch of camera stuff in here!" Anything with the Canon logo on it calls attention to the gear inside and that, to me, is not a good thing. I want a bag that someone would look at and think that maybe there's a small laptop inside, but never suspect that there's $10K worth of camera gear.

Part of the joy of DSLR shooting is in how "stealth" you can be while shooting. Why carry a bag that calls attention to your gear?

I really dig those Think Tank bags! I was checking them out in the camera store, and was thinking of getting one similar to yours for carrying a FF Nikon DSLR kit for still photography. I think they'd be perfect for a "street" bag.

They are.

I can carry two GH1 bodies, the kit lens, the 7-14mm lens, the 20mm pancake lens, my Zeiss 35mm f1.4, and all the filters, chargers and other stuff I need. Even a small Gorillapod fits comfortably inside.

And there's still room in the front pocket for my iPad. :D

That's no camera bag, that's a "Man Purse"!

I totally agree with Stephen & Faith: When possible use a bag that doesn't scream "Expensive gear inside! Rob me!"

I use 3 bags of various sizes depending on what I'm shooting or how stealthy I want to travel.

2 were designed as camera/gear bags and are good for hauling a lot of accessories. But they definitely "advertise" that fact, too. This is fine when stealth isn't a concern. My larger bag is made by Mountainsmith and holds my camera, 17" laptop, and quite a bit of other gear:

My smaller camera bag is a old precursor to the new improved one Sean posted above. It definitely looks like a camera bag, but it's very useful.

My favorite camera bag wasn't designed to be a camera bag, and doesn't look like one. It's an old small single-strap backpack stealthy kinda thing from Columbia Sportswear, which they don't sell anymore. It's not padded, but its outside pocket is just big enough to hold a GH1 with its kit zoom lens, and it's easy to pull the cam out when needed. Its inside compartment can hold lenses in padded lens bags and other gear. It just looks like an anonymous small backpack which doesn't draw attention to itself, especially if I don't stuff it full.

lol

*off topic*

dude when I saw your name it kinda freaked me out. I had a good buddy in the military that died and his name was JD Smith.

You guys are all thinking wrong...

This is THE absolute premiere bag for your GH1 and all your high end lens gear:

You can't beat it. It's extremely lightweight, NO ONE will steal your stuff because it looks like you just bought some cheap liqueur or produce... and best of all, you can not beat the price on these things as you get them free at your corner indian mart when you buy something even as low as a bag of potato chips.

Don't think I haven't done it.

In addition to carrying your gear, they can also be featured _in_ your film, such as seen in "throw-away" cameos in "American Beauty" and the opening sequence of "Julie & Julia". Any others? :D

Don't forget that if you're having a bad day, and your GH1 formats itself with a ton of a clients footage, this is the only camera bag with a built in 'suicide' feature. Simply put your head in it and tie it and there is no need to deal with lost or wrecked footage issues and angry clients any further!
