Golden Sunset Time lapse

I'm not as experienced as most, but a gorgeous sunset last night lent itself to beautiful timelapse. I shot with auto-iris because I can't think of any other way of handling the extreme changes in light conditions over time at sunset. Suggestions? BTW, there was also some pretty fine surf pumping through; check out the surf video if interested (all shot from shore with max tele, standard lens). Fun.

Looks great. We tend not to use auto iris for sunset timelapse because a natural darkening of a landscape is real, and therefore more dramatic. The idea is to capture the changing light, not to compensate for it. The surf footage reel is quite nice. I would though avoid the infommercial titles, and the studder edits. The music is also verging on cliche. Lot's of great footage there. Let it breath without the gimics.

Nice very nice,

I played around with the HVX today and did some time lapse shots however I didnt have the chance to capture a nice sunset like you did.

Question. what fps did you use? was it 2?

Cheers mike

You can do the 2fps Hack. Search for it here in the forum. But I think they meant they did one frame every two seconds. Big difference. :)

Yes, I was using the intervalometer (sp?) function. You need to be in video (not film) mode and use one of the supported rec modes (I think I used 1080i-60i for this one), set record function to interval and set interval time for whatever you want (I had it on 2 fps). This is different than under/overcranking in one of the Native modes. I believe the hack Kevin referred to allows you to get to unsupported frame rates while in Native mode.
