Going to the sand dunes

For new years the wife and I are going to my dads beach house in Morro Bay. Since we will be there I am going to take my quad and DVX to do some shooting at the Pismo dunes...

The only kind of protection I have now is a uv filter. I was thinking of rigging up some kind of a bag and tape contraption... but would a pillow case work?

I dont have the time(or money) to get anything... but I really want to get a action quad/bike video going.

suggestions?

Thanks
Brian

also... With filming fast action stuff like that, would I be better off using 60i than 24p?

Well... first off, of course I have to tell you that a decent rain cover is advised.

Now that that's out of the way... A thick plastic bag and some grip tape (or electrical tape if you don't have the grip) should be fairly safe. Just make sure all the important parts of the camera are COMPLETELY secure, and there's no way sand can get in there. Do you have a polarized filter? it'll help in the sun.

Yes, 60i would give you much better footage without the strobing with fast action like this. You could always meet in the middle and go 30P if you wish. If it was me, I'd shoot 60 on something like that.

I too would go with the plastic, that way you still can see what your switches and knobs are set at. I would take your heavy duty plastic bag cut out a hole at the bottom for the lens to go around (tapping it sealed at he lens end) and then drape it over the camera, tie the slack at the back of the camera with a twist tie, that way you can still open it up and fine tune without having to always press the small buttons and knobs through the plastic.

Yes 60 would be nice... mix it up, do some 60 and 24. Slow then fast.

sweet, thanks guys.

I do have a circular polorizing filter. I just wasnt sure about risking getting that $70 filter ruined by the sand... I know I tested both filters at once(cant remember which was in and which was out) and I could see the edges on the filter...

I wish I did have a rain cover... soon but not yet. I had thought about having my wife try and make me something but with a 2month old shes busy...

I really hope my buddy/business partner can go, he is the only other person allowed to touch the dvx haha plus I would really like to get some footage of me...

It better not rain...
