Going to Home Depot shopping for lights
Photofloods only have a lifespan of, what, 4 hours?  After 4 hours you've got to toss the bulbs and buy new ones, right?  At least that's how I remember 'em, I don't know if there are new "long life" photofloods...
Im not sure of the exact lifespan (perhaps Ill do a test by leaving one on indefinately?). As TonyH mentioned they are pretty cheap and I only get them when needed. They work extremley well by producing the nice warm daylight effect. I like me cause they are cheap, easy and and efficient (stick a couple in and drop some diffusing over them and you get nice results.)

I shot some stuff awhile back (testing the DVX and using my son) and my wife asked when I shot it as she doesnt remember me being outside with the camera that day and I wasnt. It was nighttime in the garage.

John, so even at 84CRI you thought the results were fine?
I am willing to sacrifice some unnoticed difference for 6500k bulbs. What about regular indoor (lamp) tungstens are they any where near 90? I like the fact that with these lamps contrary to tungstens you can apply CTO loosing only 2/3 a stop rather than CTB that looses 1.5-2 stops. I sure hope they come out with some cheap HMIs!

Re: Going to Home Depot shopping for lights

I came along this website, and read this post. I'm very interested in lighting as it is one of the main factors in filmmaking. Could anyone give me a link that would help me learn the lighting basics a little better. I would like to know how to make my own floor lights with diffusion, etc. If anyone could help that would be great! ;D
